Although away from the sport for a long time, Tiger Woods remains in the spotlight for some reason. This time, it is because of his viewpoint on the $3 billion merger. When initial news of the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and the LIV Golf merger came earlier in June, Woods was silent as a grave. And even though he had not opened up about partnerships, his name was used a lot with every revelation that came forth. However, the 15-time major winner has now finally made his move after the merger announcement!

The 82-time PGA Tour victor just recently agreed to become the sixth Player Director on the Policy Board, thus making his stance on the merger clear. Like many other golf stars, Woods’ acceptance has conveyed a green signal for the PGA Tour-LIV Golf amalgamation. While the Tour stars may be pleased with the golf legend’s representation, on the other end at LIV, Phil Mickelson can’t help but feel comforted. The fans, however, didn’t share Lefty’s sentiments; instead, they were left bewildered!

Lefty, who hasn’t been able to deliver in the last two majors and has also been relatively less active on social media, was again witnessed divulging his stance. This time, the subject of his tweet was Tiger Woods, his new responsibility, and the Policy Board.

While mentioning these three, the six-time major winner said, “This is great to see. Players having equal representation on the board, Tiger getting more involved, and accountability across the board.” According to the golfer, it screams awesome news for the golf world. His thoughts appeared to be aligned with those of the other PGA Tour stars as well, including Woods.

As the 11-time PGA Tour Player of the Year awardee took center stage, he acknowledged the importance of his new role. Moreover, just like Mickelson, the 47-year-old believed it was a “critical point” for the league. Thus, everyone, especially players, will ensure the best interests of each entity (fans, sponsors, and professionals) are met.

Overall, it seems that no matter the prefix before the star’s name—LIV Golf or PGA Tour—the big entities in the golf dynamics are embracing the new changes with open arms. Furthermore, there appears to be a sense of confidence in the future effects of the reforms. Yet, despite this positive outlook toward the merger, the golf world did not emit a similar chi as the players!

The golf community’s puzzled reactions to Mickelson’s words of approval

The joining of forces between the leagues has garnered approval for the alterations from renowned golfers like Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and others. Now, the golf superstar, Tiger Woods, has also added his name to the list and welcomed the change. While this acknowledgment gained Phil Mickelson’s appreciation, the golf community had quite a baffling reaction.

One fan said, “This is the most hilarious, condescending comment I’ve seen all day“.

A couple of other Twitter users couldn’t help but voice their confusion through varied questions:

One of the tweets used mockery in delivering its words and took a jab at Tiger Woods:

Meanwhile, some other members of the golf community agreed with what the 2021 PGA Championship winner said. They stated:

However, the supporters couldn’t prevent a few other golf enthusiasts from delivering harsh comments against Phil Mickelson. One of them said:

But this encouraged Lefty’s fans to further shower the golfer with love and support. Acknowledging their respect for the golf legend, they commented:
