Phil Mickelson arguably had one of the best performances among all the pros at the Masters. His biggest rival, Tiger Woods, on the other hand, withdrew after the third round. Many saw this as Lefty finally gaining the upper hand in their epic battle as competitors. With Woods’ recent post-surgery recovery update, it seems like the LIV golfer will move yet another step ahead. Especially considering the hot streak he’s on and the confidence he’s overflowing with as he targets to break his own record at the fast-approaching major.
Phil Mickelson spews confidence while Tiger Woods suffers a setback
Lefty is currently in Australia, competing in LIV’s Adelaide event. He’s brought with him the same form and consistency he showed at Augusta earlier this month. Following the second round, he’s tied for 8th on the individual leaderboard. But Mickelson has a lot more in sight than the LIV event; he’s excitedly awaiting the PGA Championship too.

In the press conference after the second round of the Australian event, the 52-year-old flaunted his confidence. “My game is kind of coming around at the right time,” he stated, oozing self-assurance, convinced that he had a shot at all the titles that were coming his way. “We’re going to go to Singapore and play, and then… have three weeks in a row with the PGA Championship right in the middle.”
While the four-time major winner is thriving on the course, Woods couldn’t be further away from it. Earlier this week, he announced that he had undergone surgery on his ankle and was currently recovering well. Naturally, this has left many assuming that he will not take the field at the PGA Championship next month, where Mickelson is looking to win back his crown.

Many reporters even believe that he may miss all three majors. However, among all the speculation, the majority are certain that the major next month is out of the question. But of course, Woods has surprised many in the past before, so the fans are forever hopeful!

Last season, Lefty didn’t have the best performance during LIV’s inaugural season and failed to grab even a single top-10 finish. But now he seems to be back to his old self. The same player who in 2021 won the PGA Championship against all odds and set the record of becoming the oldest player to win a major at 50 years, 11 months, and 7 days is certainly looking forward to perhaps resetting that.
He claimed that the timing of his game-clicking couldn’t have been better. “The parts of my game have been really coming together for a while,” he stated. “So I’m glad that I’m shooting some scores now again.”
