The first LPGA major of the year saw many big names miss the cut at The Club at Carlton Woods on Saturday. From world no. 1 Lydia Ko to former Chevron Championship winner Lexi Thompson, golf fans were in for a surprise as many golfing heavyweights took their exit from the event.
One LPGA star whose exit saddened her fans is the English golfer Charley Hull. The 27-year-old had a disappointing first round and tried to turn it around on the second day. However, her efforts went in vain, with Hull posting an update on Instagram about her dispiriting exit.

Fans of Charley Hull were expecting a good outing for the golfer at Houston following her performances at recent LPGA events. Hull finished T7 at the LPGA Drive On Championship last month. She had also appeared at the DIO Implant LA Open, finishing at T15 on the leaderboard.
However, golf can sometimes be a rollercoaster of a sport, which even Hull acknowledged in her Instagram post. After her missed cut, she shared a picture from the event, writing, “Couldn’t find my swing in the first round, but bounced back to my normal rhythm in the second round. That’s Golf for you.” The young golfer also revealed that she will head to LA next for the JM Eagle LA Championship.

After her first-round 79, the LPGA star tried hard to bounce back. She recovered slightly, faring eight strokes better in Round 2, but her efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.

Other big names that exited from the tournament include the likes of Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko, and Grace Kim. Thompson, who won the Chevron Championship in 2014, needed a birdie on at least one of her two last holes in Round 2, but the world no. 6 failed to convert. Meanwhile, 2016 winner Lydia Ko started things off well with a round of one-under 71. But, things later took a turn for the worse on Friday as she was three over in her first four holes. She finally fired a 76, missing the cut by two.
Supportive comments pour in for Hull after her exit
Charley Hull went pro in 2013, steadily making a name for herself in the golfing community. The young star boasts close to 300k followers on Instagram, with her latest post seeing an outpouring of support from her most loyal fans.
Some fans noted the unpredictable nature of the sport, with one commenting, “That’s golf sometimes it just doesn’t work out, good luck in LA.” Fans also took note of her solid second round performance, as one wrote, “Totally agree Charley, 2nd round you were like a different person. You still finished 1st in the dress/looks league though ❤️❤️.”
