Another blunder by Collin Morikawa! The Californian hasn’t caught a break since his last win at the 2023 ZOZO Championship. It’s not that he hasn’t played well. But Morikawa’s luck leading up to the final few holes on the last day just hasn’t been good. Ever since October 2023, he has had 4 runner-up and 7 other top 10 finishes. But he couldn’t convert any of them to achieve glory.

Morikawa shared his thoughts after his most recent loss to Russell Henley at the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational. He was asked, “One thing we hear endlessly out here is how hard it is to win on the TOUR. Do you appreciate that more after you’ve won or after you haven’t?”

The 28-year-old replied, I don’t know. I think the satisfaction you get after winning is incredible. Because you just know you accomplished your job and you just beat however many guys in the field for that week. You were the best player that week. For me, I don’t look back and be like, oh, man, I could have won this, I could have done this, I should have done this. Like for me it’s just, all right, look, I lost, I did a few poor things last week, I got beat, I just have to get up on my feet and beat everyone else this week, right.”

If this is the way Morikawa thinks, then he certainly has a very strong mentality. He continued to answer the question at TPC Sawgrass press conference. He said, “So I think if you solace in the fact of, oh, man, it’s really, really hard to win, to me that mindset isn’t where I want to be. I’m coming out here to try and win every week, and granted, I haven’t done that and no one ever has, but that’s my mindset is, like, I know it’s hard, but screw it; like I want the challenge.” The challenges of the PGA Tour might be getting a bit too daunting for Morikawa at present. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to win.

Morikawa continued, “I want it to be hard. I want everyone to come after me. I want the eyeballs on you. I want the pressure because when you’re put in those situations, like, sometimes people perform, and people can say like I haven’t performed on those Sundays. So what. I’m putting myself in position to perform, and I know I have before in the past, and like I said, it’s just small little things that can make the difference, right, and everyone has ups, everyone has downs, and we’ll figure it out.” With that, he has challenged all his peers to come at him as he is focused on beating them all to win another title. And his next goal will be THE PLAYERS Championship 2025.

For Collin Morikawa, it was a show of confidence and determination. But the fans didn’t take kindly to his words of encouragement after a bit of his statement was shared on X. Let’s see what they had to say.

Confidence turns into arrogance as fans berate Collin Morikawa

“Never realized how arrogant he is until recently.”, was one of the first comments. This is a complete contradiction of Collin Morikawa’s confidence in his abilities. Maybe the PGA Tour pro’s message didn’t translate completely in the tweet. Nevertheless, just reading a player say “people can say like I haven’t performed on those Sundays. so what?” does come off as quite arrogant.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Morikawa's mindset enough to break his winless streak, or is luck just not on his side?

Have an interesting take?

Another fan asked Morikawa to “Get over yourself”. The statements he has made can be perceived as self-centered and ignorant. But it all depends on how much the fans read into it. At the end of the day, Morikawa himself is determined to face the challenges. Hopefully, he can prove himself on the course.

One of the comments reflected on how the PGA Tour pro found success when he didn’t have a crowd around him. It said “There were no fans at any of the majors he’s won because of Covid. It’s obvious the fan pressure and crowd noise gets to him on Sundays.” They have raised a fair point as Morikawa was in his prime during the COVID Pandemic. Both his major wins came when fans were restricted from attending the course. Maybe the lack of distractions is the key to Morikawa’s form.

Someone also stated “Chokes on the final round consistently. Another mediocre player in the top 10.” It seems that they don’t think Collin Morikawa deserves to be in the top 10 of the world golf rankings. However, his 2x major wins might prove them wrong.

Responding directly to Morikawa, a comment read so what nothing? 😂 its on you bud. we’re not the ones hitting the shots. if you are content w your gameplay n coming in 2nd, well then alright. doesnt mean ppl arent gonna talk tho.” To be frank, if the Los Angeles local books his spot on the 2nd place, then he will be a topic of discussion among fans, experts, and anyone connected with golf.
