“Winless,” is one way to describe Collin Morikawa‘s 2024 season. After the nail-biting matchup between Scottie Scheffler and Morikawa at the Tour Championship. Despite having the rounds of 66-63-67-66, he fell four strokes short of the win. He was runner-up at the Memorial Tournament as well. However, with two runner-up finishes, the golfer has shared his frustration and aims to change it.
After his seven top-5 finishes, the golfer seemed firm in his resolution for the 2025 season, but he again ended as runner-up at the Sentry. Even with his recent participation at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, after being on a stroke lead ahead of Russell Henley, the feat changed. On the 16th hole, Henley scored an eagle chip from the rough green, positioning him in the lead.
Morikawa, who has struggled to get to the title and falling short with the barest of margins, has now shared his frustration through social media. After his one-stroke loss, he wrote on Instagram, “No excuses. Never had any, but always a nice reminder. Honestly, though, this one stings.” The subtle way of taking the news is a great quality of the 28-year-old. His close finishes at the PGA Tour events, including majors, and still believing in the comeback are proof of it.

Coming back after the illness in February, Morikawa is now hopeful about his performance as on Saturday after the third round he said, “But the past two weeks I felt like I’ve put in a lot of good work, and it’s nice to see it.” His round of 67 in third was the lowest he recorded. However, with the final round, his par finish and the eagle from Henley on 16th made the difference.

The close matchup against Russell Henley was somewhat in Morikawa’s favor until the last few shots. Despite the unfortunate drought of wins, the golfer will have to wait a little longer. The American professional won his last event in 2023 at the Zozo Championship. However, his close finishes are a sign of a glorious year coming.

Even the winner of API, Henley, has praised him, saying, “You know, hats off to Collin, you know he played great today, he played super steady but sometimes golf is just mean like that but what a great competitor he is.” Well, there isn’t any doubt about his performance as in 2025, out of the four participations, he recorded two runner-up finishes and two T17 finishes.
Notably, the golfer is on the up move to change his past year performance as last year he failed to make the cut at API. Now, with his upcoming participation at the PGA Tour schedule, can he change that too? At the Players in 2024, he placed T45 and T3 at the Masters. Will Morikawa win any tournament in 2025, or will he have to suffice with similar results as last year? Share your predictions for the golfer in the comments below.
