Can Amy Yang reclaim her Blue Jacket glory, or will a new champion rise at the CME finale?

Let us take a quick trip down the memory lane. April 14, 2024, to be more specific. Why then? The answer’s quite simple. That was when Scottie Scheffler won the first major tournament of the season. By doing so, he was able to claim the trophy along with something we like to call the Green Jacket. It’s not a new thing for any golf fan. Now, fast forward to the present, and we will be able to witness a similar moment, the final day of the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship. Just that the color of the jacket would be blue!

The winner of the 2024 LPGA Tour season finale would be awarded a trophy alongside a cut of the whopping $11 million prize money. But that’s not all. They would also be able to claim the Blue Jacket, according to Women & Golf,  that is set aside for the winner of the tournament that brings an end to the circuit’s season-long race.

Yes, you read that right! Just like the Green Jacket in the Masters Tournament, the winner of the CME Group Tour Championship would also receive a coat. What’s more, it would be put on the new champion by the winner of the previous edition of the tournament. It has been traditionally done so for the past couple of years since 2022 and will continue in 2024 as well.

That would mean Amy Yang would be giving the Blue Jacket to the champion if she is unable to defend her title just like Lydia Ko did for her last year. For the 35-year-old South Korean professional emerged victorious at the 2023 edition of the event with a score of 27-under 261, all the while raking in a whopping $2 million winner’s cut.

Wearing the Jacket that boasts the blue hue to represent the CME Group Logo is nothing short of prestigious in the LPGA Tour. Even Lydia Ko, the winner of the 2014 and the 2022 edition of the CME Group Tour Championship was excited to sport the same. “This has been of the most consistent and solid years I’ve had,” said the Kiwi in 2022. “I’m excited my photo of winning here in 2014 with the glasses can get updated this year with the blue jacket.” The same would be the case with Yang as well and would continue to be so in 2024 if she manages to defend her title of champion.

Amy Yang’s 2024 run on the LPGA Tour

2024 hasn’t been kind to the South Korean professional, who is one of the two people to don the iconic Blue Jacket. However, she was able to rake in a single top-10 finish on the LPGA Tour, and that too came at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship where she was able to rake in a victory and clinch her first major championship.

Have an interesting take?

Although she followed it with a T4 at the Olympics soon after, not receiving a podium finish deprived her of any medals. The dismal run has caused her to fall to the 38th position on the Race to CME standings for the year 2024. Will she be able to make a comeback and clinch the trophy just like she did last year? The fans and only wait and watch as the finale of the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship ends on November 24m Sunday!
