When a player gets back in form after a rough phase, it always inspires the fans and other players alike. A fine example of this is the recent resurgence of Lucas Glover. After his two consecutive titles this month, the golfing community has been fondly showering a lot of well-deserved attention on him.

Now, following the same trend, another tour pro is now back in form after a lull. This five-time PGA Tour winner has turned heads with his score in the first two rounds of the ongoing $20 million BMW Championship. In the post-round conference, the Tennessee-born shared his perspective on the challenges of the sport and its hard-hitting reality. Let’s look at what he said.

After he won the Honda Classic Tournament title in February this year, Chris Kirk hasn’t had an attention-grabbing week until now. Looks like the BMW Championship has offered him the much-awaited spark to blast away.

In the first round, he scored a 4-under, and he held on to that number in the second round as well. With an 8-under at the end of round 2, he currently stands in the second position on the leaderboard. Right above him, at number 1, is Max Homa with a 10-under.

At the press conference, the five-time PGA Tour title winner talked about how busy life is for tour pros. He highlighted how packed his schedule is, and how occupied his weeks are. Kirk spoke about how the life of a golf player is a series of trials of packed schedules and fierce competition. These trials and the remarkable perseverance of players are the threads that collectively weave the fabric of professional golf.

Kirk remarked that just like him, other players are probably having similar schedules, and talked about the tour. “Then you also look at just how deep the PGA Tour is, how many great players there are out there.” Speaking of challenges, he mentioned how there are talented players even at the bottom of leaderboards. Here is an excerpt of what Kirk said.

The position on the leaderboard doesn’t always tell the true story

The 38-year-old spoke about how the sport has tons of players who are all amazing in their own ways. He seemed to reflect on his own experience over the past few months. Maybe he was trying to convey how his positions on the leaderboard did not always reveal his true potential.

The guy that finishes 150th on the FedEx [Cup] list every year is an absolute world-class player and an unbelievable golfer.” Kirk added. “There’s always stories and there’s always people to pull for.” Sometimes people get distracted by the few who make it to the top few positions. His words probably tried to point that out.
