Are fans right to mock Brooke Henderson's recent performance, or is it just a rough patch?

Criticism is bound to follow a golfer, and in today’s world, it could be about anything. From the apparel worn on the course to a missed putt for the U.S., the pros are flacked left and right. When it comes to criticism of one’s fashion on the greens, Jason Day might be more familiar with it.

After donning the Malbon Golf attire, he received negative feedback from many in the golf world, and Brooke Henderson might be the next in line. The Ottawa Senators of the NHL announced Henderson as their ambassador in a multi-year partnership. The LPGA Tour star would have the Sens logo on her water bottles and her golf towels.

Moreover, per the deal, she and her sister, who caddies for her on the LPGA Tour, would also have to wear the Senators’ colors—red, black, white, and gold—once per tournament. Speaking about her latest partnership, Henderson said, “It’s such a cool opportunity. Growing up, I played hockey, I loved hockey, and I always cheered for the Sens. So it feels like a perfect fit.”

But will it be a perfect fit? Although the 13-time LPGA Tour winner sounded excited about her new collaboration with the Sens and wearing the new colors, the fans differed in their opinions about the decision. They brutally criticized the partnership and the colors she may soon wear on the golf course.

When Jason Day wore sweatpants on the first two days of the PGA Championship, the fashion choice appalled many in the golf world. A few fans even announced that the pants should serve 25 years in prison or that they would become the reason why the PGA Tour may impose a dress code.

Have an interesting take?

Neither happened, but everyone had one question, and now, with the imagination of Brooke Henderson wearing red, black, gold, and white, those questions were pointed at her too. One fan diabolically asked, “1. Why? 2. No, seriously, why?” Another showed distaste for the partnership and reciprocated a similar reaction as before, commenting, “SO YOU HAVE CHOSEN FAILURE” hinting that the Sens-Henderson ship may never sail as successfully as expected by both parties.

The Ottawa Senators faced over 40 losses in the regular 2023-2024 season and had a particularly disappointing season. The Sens fans were utterly upset, as they expected more from the 20-player roster. Thus, alluding to the same, one fan took a dig at the Sens and how Henderson may start losing too. They said, “As part of the sponsorship does she have to lose in magnificent fashion and promise her fans a better day is coming? Will she only be allowed to play in tournaments where the courses are located in the middle of F’ing nowhere?”

Seeing Henderson partner up with the Sens, which may eventually lead the Canadian pro to wear some not-so-fashionable clothes, this fan switched their support. Instead of her, they now supported someone who has been wearing Malbon Golf, unlike Day. The user said, “I would like to formally announce my move to Charley Hull fandom.” The golf enthusiasts do love the 13-time LPGA Tour winner and her overall fashion choices, but her latest collaboration was not appreciated by this fan. They disgracefully said, “Love Brooke but yikes had to pick the biggest dumpster fire of an organization.”

Well, Brooke Henderson has not yet worn the Ottawa Senators’ colors, but the criticisms have been racking up even without it. But who knows, it might turn out better than what’s been expected.
