Charlie

Woods might not get much rest despite the school’s summer break! Why? The 15-year-old has a jam-packed schedule for June. Last year, Woods Jr. participated in nine tournaments, with his father, Tiger Woods, serving as his caddie at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship. Overall, 2023 was a successful year for Woods Jr., highlighted by his high school state championship trophy and significant growth as a young golfer.

In 2024, the young guns of the golf world are already making their mark in professional golf. Sixteen-year-old Kris Kim made his PGA Tour debut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and the AJGA No. 1 ranked golfer, Miles Russell, will soon make

his debut at the upcoming Rocket Mortgage Classic in June. However, Charlie Woods is not among them. Although he attempted to start his PGA Tour career this season, he failed on both occasions. Will these setbacks prevent Charlie from playing golf? Probably not!

Where is Charlie Woods playing in June?

June might be one of the most important months for the 15-year-old, with two major tournaments scheduled back-to-back. First, from June 19–20, is the South Florida Jr. PGA Championship at StoneBridge GC. Last year, he finished with a score of 75-81, tying for 33rd place. Although Charlie’s school, the Benjamin School, as per its website, only allows golf camps for students in grades 4–8, and the 15-year-old is in 10th grade, the Jr. PGA Championship is an invitational tournament without such restrictions.

While there is no confirmation of his receipt of an invitation yet, his past performances likely make him a strong candidate. Next up is the Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship, scheduled for June 22–23. Last year, Charlie Woods tied for 20th with a score of 79-75-154 at the 39th edition of the tournament. Unlike the Jr. PGA Championship, this tournament imposes some restrictions on players.

In 2023, it was open to players aged 11 to 18 as of June 22, for both members and non-members. Considering Woods Jr.’s age, there seems to be no issue with his participation. Additionally, for members, the tournament allows players from the SFPGA Medalist Tour.

Charlie Woods will focus on honing his golfing skills during the summer break, especially after experiencing disappointment not once but twice while trying to kickstart his PGA Tour journey. Early in the year, Charlie Woods made his first attempt at the PGA Tour and participated in the Cognizant Classic pre-qualifiers, where he carded a 16 over 86. The young golfer even received a wave of criticism after his performance.

His second outing came in April at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Charlie Woods teed off at the qualifiers for the 2024 US Open, but once again, he could not find success and finished T61 with a score of nine over 81. It’s not only the month of June when Jr. Woods’s calendar will be full of golf events. He also has more events lined up in the coming months.

Charlie Woods’ plans for August and further

After taking a break in July, Charlie Woods might compete at the Old Palm GC in the SFPGA Jr. Cup in August, where he previously finished 10th with a score of 68-75-76. This is likely the only tournament he’ll participate in during August before moving on to the SFPGA Labor Day Classic in early September, where he finished in T35 last year.

Despite having a two-month rest period, the 15-year-old’s hectic schedule is expected to continue through the end of 2024. In December, you might see Charlie Woods at the SFPGA Tour Championship at Park West Palm, where he achieved his best finish last year with a total of 69-73, tying for 5th place. This tournament is open to players aged 11 to 18 as of December 2, 2023.
