Charlie Woods has tasted quite a bit of success lately. In the 2024 season, the teenager has played in five events so far. Starting with a T2 finish at the Medalist Tour back in March, he last played at the SFPGA Labor Day Classic finishing T20. Not only that, he also won the SFPGA Junior Cup carding 73-68-73 at the BallenIsles- East Course in July this year. Despite these achievements, he will be missing out on a few events at high school.
He isn’t part of the tournaments currently held at the Benjamin School. For fall, he is unable to play at the Golf-Varsity-Boys and Golf-JV-Boys. Although the tournament started in August last year, they are still underway and will continue till November. It is certainly surprising that despite having a +3 handicap index with the Florida State Golf Association, he isn’t part of the team. So who will represent the school at Golf-Varsity-Boys?
Ryland Rabil and Clint Lewis will. And what about Golf-JV-Boys? Here’s the list:

It’s still not confirmed why Charlie Woods isn’t part of these teams at the Benjamin School. Tiger Woods has also not shared his thoughts about this. Regardless, Woods Jr. has something that his father doesn’t: a high school state golf championship gold medal. He won it in 2023 after the boys at The Benjamin School won the FHSAA Class at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. Charlie Woods, who finished with a tie for 26th overall, was the fourth golfer out of five on his school’s team.
Similarly, last year, Woods Jr. had his best finish at the SFPGA Tour Championship as he finished T5. Compared to last year, this year is definitely better because he already has a win under his belt. However, is it enough to heal the heartbreaks he had this season?

It’s true that Charlie Woods had a decent year at the SFPGA but it’s not the same on PGA Tour and USGA. The teen tried to qualify for the PGA Tour event, the Cognizant Classic. Unfortunately, he was unable to, and later, at the U.S. Open, he faced a similar fate. The heartbreak didn’t end there as he missed the cut by 18 strokes at the US Junior Amateur, while his father, Tiger Woods, watched. The young golfer joined the 264-player event after a successful run at the Eagle Trace Golf Club qualifier.
At the US Junior Amateur event, a crowd of 500 people watched on, but luck wasn’t on Charlie’s side. He was visibly frustrated and opted not to talk to the media. What’s interesting is that Tiger Woods won three back-t0-back US Amateur events before turning professional in 1996.
However, the 15-year-old didn’t lose hope and bounced back with a win at the South Florida PGA Junior Cup, which is considered one of the eight majors on the PGA Junior Tour. He later talked about his motivation and revealed, “I wanted it so bad. I felt focused, and I knew what I had to do to get it done. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do better.”

“I wanted to redeem myself, and I feel great about how I played,” he shared. He outclassed 62 other junior golfers, and he was the only one in his division to finish under par after shooting scores of 73-68-73. With this, Woods Jr. has shown his father’s characteristics of resilience and battling spirit.
