Unfavorable weather conditions at the Future Masters have caused major disruption, especially for the 15–18-year-old division competing at the Dothan Country Club, Alabama. One of its prey is the 15-year-old Charlie Woods. Due to the inclement weather, Woods could play only the initial seven holes in the second round as the round got delayed.

Although it’s a 54-hole event, the Press Thornton-sponsored junior golf tournament’s format does have a 36-hole cut. With 11 holes remaining, Woods was at the T41 position on the leaderboard, 8 strokes behind the then clubhouse leader. However, was it enough to take him to the final round?

The Palm Beach native had made an impressive birdie on the par-4 6th hole to end his stretch and was 4-over when the event got suspended on Friday. This included 8 bogeys and four birdies over the first 25 holes. This included Had he gone steady with such a performance, he would have had an easy entry to the final round. However, such wasn’t the case once he re-joined the event on Saturday at the scheduled 6:45 am slot.

In recent days, it has been difficult for the young Woods to play extraordinarily well and take a trophy home. But following the US Open and Cognizant Classic disappointments, the 15-year-old made an impressive improvement and qualified for his first USGA Championship, following in his father Tiger Woods’s footsteps.

Charlie Woods to make his USGA debut

Unlike his fellow competitors, Miles Russell and Kris Kim, Charlie Woods is still waiting to get a taste of the PGA Tour greens. While his PGA Tour debut might still be some time away, the young lad is ready to make his USGA debut. After a failed attempt at the U.S. Open qualifying, where he carded 9 over 81, Woods is now prepared for his first USGA Championship. In the 85 players’ field at the Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, the 15-year-old shot 1 under 71 and emerged as the medalist to receive the exemption for the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur.

In less than a month, the Florida native will play at the Oak Hills Country Club and attempt to recreate his father’s consecutive victories from 1991 to 1993 at the US Junior Amateur. As the USGA Championships shaped Tiger Woods’s career, his son also revealed how much he wants to win them too.

After making it through the qualifier for the US Junior Amateur, in an interview, Woods Jr. said, “The USGA means a lot to me. I want to win USGA championships and hopefully one day the U.S. Open.” Who knows, just like Woods was catapulted into becoming the hottest golfer in the 90s, this U.S. Junior Amateur may give Charlie Woods a similar push and crown him as the winner.
