Charlie Woods took another leap of success and also carried his school with him. Benjamin Buccaneers finished second in the Class 1A Region 4 tournament at windy Miami Shores Country Club. Now they are qualified for the State Championship. Tiger Woods‘s teenage son was part of the squad carding 71 to tie for sixth individually.
Charlie Woods bogeyed three holes in the front nine. However, a late charge quite similar to his teammates, thanks to two birdies on the back nine, saw him finish sixth. Benjamin School Boys golf team is the reigning state champion of Class 1A.
Notably, this comes right after Benjamin School’s victorious start at the Florida High School State Athletic Association postseason. They scored a two-stroke victory over Oxbridge Academy only a week ago. Interestingly, Woods Jr. tied for sixth there as well, carding 1-over 73.

Last time the school posted on their social media handle, “Wasn’t pretty but got the job done at districts.” They got the job done this time too. Per the same report, the Buccaneers finished second thanks to a late charge. The defending champions will travel to Mission Resort + Club in Howey-In-The-Hills next week.
Speaking about the 15-year-old youngster, his high school coach, Toby Harbeck, told the Palm Beach Post, “He’s tough on himself. If he could just relax and play, [and] store some of that energy, it’s good. He’s just young. He’s got a lot of Dad in him.” Harbeck previously mentioned how Woods Jr. tends to go pin hunting quite like his 15-time major champion dad, who happened to be among the spectators this time.

Was Tiger Woods instrumental in Charlie’s success?
Tiger Woods was present at the venue watching over his son. Generally, it is known that the 82-time PGA Tour winner doesn’t get all involved when the tournament is going on. Woods was seated on a golf cart to watch Benjamin Buccaneers play. Apparently, the two talked only in the 12th hole, which Charlie birdied. Woods was there during his son’s USGA debut as well.
Interestingly, Woods’s ex-wife, and Charlie’s mother, Elin Nordegren was also present. Reportedly, she was on the cart with Tiger Woods for a few holes. Rest she walked with the team wearing a tee with Buccaneers etched on the front. Notably, she was also present early this year, when Charlie Woods failed to qualify for the Cognizant Classic Pre-qualifier. Tiger Woods was still suffering from influenza then.

For Charlie Woods, the postseason has started well. After the US Junior Amateur heartbreak, the teenager won the South Florida Junior PGA Cup, one of the South Florida PGA Junior Tour’s eight majors. As for his 48-year-old father, he underwent his sixth back surgery recently.
