Dashed PGA Tour hopes haven’t dampened Woods Jr.’s spirits. Perhaps that’s genetics, coming from Tiger Woods himself. Charlie Woods, after failing to qualify for the Cognizant Classic pre-qualifier, is teeing up at an AGJA event in North Carolina on March 21.

To qualify, players need to have 47 performance stars. But the teenager’s entry comes courtesy of a sponsor exemption, something that didn’t sit well with fans who saw Tiger Woods’s influence behind the decision. Nevertheless, as Charlie Woods goes on to make his AJGA debut, here is everything you need to know about the Will Lowery Junior Championship.

The Will Lowery Junior Championship is an open event where both male and female participants of 12-19 years can participate. The 78-player field tournament will tee off at the Carolina Trace Country Club – Lake Course on March 21. It’s a 54-hole stroke play event with an entry fee of $295.

The par 72 layout stretches out to 6948 yards for boys. Before this, Charlie Woods has played in one event so far this year, but that came in the Medalist Tour – Martin Downs. Woods Jr. tied for the 2nd spot in the 84-man field on March 10.

Teenage Woods currently ranks 16th in the 2024 South Florida PGA Junior Player of the Year rankings. Last year, Charlie Woods was 38th with 6 top 25s and 3 top 10s to his name. On the other hand, the 15-year-old is 957 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings. Whereas, TUGR places the junior golfer at 666th Overall, 85th in Florida, and 9th in Palm Beach Gardens.

Tiger Woods, after missing out on Charlie’s PGA Tour pre-qualifier, has accompanied him to Carolina. The 15-time Major Champion was most recently in the Bahamas for a meeting with PIF chief, Yasir Al-Rumayyan along with Jay Monahan and other five player-directors. Nevertheless, Woods has returned in time to support his son like how he has done many times before.

Charlie Woods has Woods Sr. by his side for most events

Woods Jr. has made routine appearances with his pop at the PNC Championship. Last year, Team Woods tied for the fifth spot. The major highlight was Woods Jr.’s booming drive that reached over 300 yards on the par 4 13th and a brilliant chip-in for a birdie putt. The veteran golfer has also accompanied his son while recovering from ankle surgery. Tiger Woods was caddying for Charlie at the Notah Begay III Junior Championship regional qualifier, which he won.

Notably, the 15-time Major Champion also steps on the green during his son’s outings for Benjamin School. In fact, the teenage one-upped his father by bringing a State championship trophy in November. Charlie Woods tried his luck at a PGA Tour qualifier last month. An audacious move considering the teenager had yet to tee off in any AJGA or USGA event then. But the round was marred by the unruly crowd who tagged Woods Jr. through the course, despite him shooting 86 and crashing out.
