Ahead of the Genesis Invitational, Tiger Woods disclosed the name of the recipient of the 2022 Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption. The PGA Tour event is all set to commence on February 17th, and making his first ever appearance will be Aaron Beverly!

Organized by the Tiger Woods Foundation, the $9,300,000 purse event is often known as the concluding event of the west coast swing of the tour and is played in the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.

A chance to play on this event of the PGA Tour is given annually to a golfer representing a minority background in the form of an exception. Renamed after Charles Luther Sifford, the first African American to play on the PGA Tour, they have granted many deserving candidates this exemption in his honour, with Willie Mack as the most recent one in 2021.

Tiger Woods welcomes the PGA Tour exempt

Tiger took to Twitter to disclose the golfer who will soon be teeing it up in Riviera. He wrote, I’m looking forward to welcoming Aaron Beverly to @thegenesisinv as the 2022 Sifford Exemption. Like me, Aaron learned the game from his dad. I know Charlie Sifford would be proud of Aaron as he makes his PGA Tour debut at Riviera next month.”

Beverly’s father, who was also an athlete, introduced him to golf at the tender age of three. His game flourished in collegiate golf while playing for the Sacramento State University golf team, where he holds multiple records to his name. Moreover, he does not come with insufficient experience. 2021 was his first year on the APGA Tour, where he had a great debut. In addition, he has played on the Golden State Tour, the Latinoamérica Tour and Mackenzie Tour.

This is, understandably, one of the biggest moments of Beverly’s life. The ecstatic golfer said, “Receiving the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption and having the opportunity to play in The Genesis Invitational is a true honor and the opportunity of a lifetime. This is the moment all my hard work and dedication has been preparing me for and I look forward to competing at Riviera.”
