It has been nearly two years for Charley Hull to win anything on the LPGA Tour. The 26-year-old, although ranked as world number seven, for the past couple of months has failed to convert wins. However, Hull has been on the run ever since then, and though without a victory, she has tried to be always in the contention.

But, that will not be the case at the FORD Championship prized at $2.25 million in Seville Golf and Country Club, which was the 2-time LPGA Tour winner’s fourth start in the season. Hull, however, has abruptly exited the Arizona greens after playing round one at the Ford Championship.

In the first round at the Seville G&CC, Charley Hull started round one with a few par putts at the front nine, one bogey, and one birdie. The underwhelming performance of Hull was continued even at the back nines, as she made more pars than birdies and finished the round at par 72. While watching the English golfer, it could be sensed that somewhere, Hull was struggling.

However, when started in Gilbert for the Friday rounds, things were looking different. Hull shot two consecutive birdies to start her round and followed it with another one at the par-4 hole seven. But down the line after playing the 9th hole and finishing the front, Hull abruptly withdrew. The LPGA Tour Media posted on x (formerly Twitter) notifying about the same.

The tweet cited Hull’s withdrawal due to an undisclosed illness. In the past, she has struggled with a neck injury that has hampered her play even at the Solheim Cup. However, the reality behind her sudden withdrawal can be anything as Hull started her 2024 after fighting from a bunch of illnesses.

At the FORD Championship, though it has not followed the same fate as the HSBC Women’s World Championship, Hull’s exit has not been the only one. Prior to Hull withdrawing from the event, another player had exited the course due to another reason.

Xiaowen Yin was the rookie on the LPGA Tour in 2023 after she made her through the Epson Tour. In the 2024 season, the 19-year-old has been trying to play better than ever. However, she has been struck with an injury which pushed her to not play signal hole at the FORD Championship. Unlike Hull, Yin withdrew right before the round two commenced. Her withdrawal was also posted on X.

With five birdies and three bogeys made in round one, Yin was 2 under 72 in the leaderboard. There was a chance that she could have played differently in round two but injury stopped her from doing so. The next event on the schedule of the LPGA Tour will be the T-Mobile Match Play, the question is if Charley Hull and Yin will be playing in the event.
