Charley Hull vs. Dame Laura Davies: Who's your pick in this epic generational showdown?

In a mere 24 hours, the twelve best golfers from America and Europe will come face to face for the biennial Solheim Cup. This time, the Europeans will be outsiders at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club and looking to win the prestigious cup for the fourth time in a row. The competitive spirits are high in Team Europe and their intense practice has started. Taking part in it is the 3-time LET winner Charley Hull.

As the fitness freak that the Kettering native is, she has hit the gym and tested her stamina. But this time, Hull had a much better player as her rival. A recent Instagram story by the 2-time LPGA Tour winner shows her running on a treadmill as fast as she could and right beside her was the 45-time Ladies European Tour winner, Dame Laura Davies. The 60-year-old has taken a spot on Suzann Pettersen’s team as a vice-captain, this will be the third year in a row that Davies will be a VC for Team Europe.

Her expertise worked enough for the Europeans to retain the Solheim Cup last year, and she is not coming slow this season too. Hull revealed that she and the 60-year-old pro decided to hit the gym together, but the veteran has kept with Hull’s intense workout. While the young pro was tackling the treadmill, Davies was keeping pace with her on the Smart Bike. This impressive speed led Hull to jokingly say, “Damo and I working hard in the gym this morning… showing me how it’s done.”

Hull finished T2 in that start and stunned everyone with her performance, including Dame Laura Davies. After watching the Kettering native in Morocco, Davies was truly impressed and said in an interview from 2013 that she knew Hull was not a just normal golfer as she could hit far and better than most women golfers. While the 3-time LET winner was playing in the same field as Davies at the 2013 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, she revealed that she got a photo clicked with her idol and had kept it with her after it. That was the first time, they met and now life has taken full circle as they compete on the same team. Hull has also attributed her success to Davies as she told the Women’s Golf Magazine, “When I was young, I used to look up to Laura Davies, and I think having role models like Laura who I’m now lucky to play alongside has helped me become the player I am today.” The two are a perfect duo to defeat Team USA.
