Will unpredictable weather ruin the Shriners Open, or can players adapt to the challenge?

Breaking news golf fans! The Shriners Children’s Open PGA Tour tournament which is just around the corner was supposed to bring joy and excitement, but the reality here is rather disappointing and concerning. The tournament is taking off from October 17 to 20, 2024, at the beautiful TPC Summerlin course in Las Vegas. This exciting event boasts a whopping $7,000,000 purse with the winner taking home an impressive $1,260,000, then what’s the problem?

Well, Jay Monahan’s biggest enemy is back to haunt the PGA Tour because the weather at the venue has been utterly unpredictable and the next 48 hours at TPC Summerlin are shaping up to be a real test of endurance for golfers. A dramatic shift in weather conditions is forecasted, with calm and peaceful mornings giving way to strong, gusting winds in the afternoons. The host of SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio, Jason Sobel’s latest tweet read that the players are going to have a lot of struggles during the game.

“Potential for big-time discrepancy between early/late and late/early waves at TPC Summerlin over the next two days. Forecasted to be calm this morning, with gusting winds starting later today”, read the post. To add to that, a lot of players have been withdrawing due to injuries. For instance, Nicholas Lindheim has withdrawn from the Shriners Children’s Open before the first round. Blaine Hale Jr. will replace Lindheim and will be teeing off at 12:51 p.m. PT from Hole 1.

Have an interesting take?

The 2024 Shriners Children’s Open takes place from October 10-13 at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada. The PGA Tour event features a $7 million purse, with the winner earning $1.35 million and 500 FedEx Fall points who gets to secure a tour card for two years. However, several top players will be absent, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland, and Patrick Cantlay.

These absentees create opportunities for other players to shine. Scheffler skips the event after a remarkable season, while McIlroy focuses on the DP World Tour playoffs in Dubai. Schauffele takes a break after his impressive two-major championship wins, and Hovland follows an underwhelming season. Cantlay, a former champion and three-time runner-up, misses the tournament for the second consecutive year. The 132-player field still promises exciting competition.
