The image of Phil Mickelson sipping on a cup of coffee during a golf tournament is a constant. Furthermore, in July 2020, he said he needed a break. And then, Mickelson went on a six-day fast, where he consumed only coffee and water. This news went viral, and some people even tried it out for themselves!
Recently, the 45-time PGA tour winner spoke to Golf Digest regarding this on the occasion of National Coffee Day. During the interview, Mickelson revealed why coffee is such a crucial part of his diet.

‘I drink coffee all day long’- Phil Mickelson talks about his health
Talking to Golf Digest, Mickelson says there are two things that have changed his life, the first being coffee. He reveals the doctors diagnosed him with psoriatic arthritis a decade ago.
When he consulted a nutrition specialist, he learned that the Th1 and Th2 cells of his immune system were a little erratic. Because of this, he repeatedly fell sick. To cure this, they basically recommended Mickelson to consume more coffee.

He said, “I ended up doing that and continue to do it to this day. I drink coffee all day long and in the last ten years, I have not been sick a single day. So, it has changed my life in that regard and it has helped me control any type of ailments that I may have.”

Stressing on the importance of coffee in his diet, he concludes, “Coffee is single-handedly the biggest thing for me.” The place for the second most important thing went to fasting. When he fasts, he doesn’t just consume coffee. No, he has a special blend, which is full of healthy ingredients.

Talking about his fasting, he said, “The last 10 days I’ve done what I call a hard reset, to change and try to make things better. I have lost 15 pounds. I’ve done a six-day fast with water and a special coffee blend for wellness that I’ve been working on with Dave Phillips, and went on a bit of a retreat.”
