The 2023 U.S. Open is all prepared to welcome a star-studded field on 15th June 2023. For weeks now every detail and intricacy with regard to the tournament has attracted massive attention. This includes the beautiful debutant venue, the competitive playing field, and definitely the colossal cash prize.

While the 3-billion merger shook the golf world last week, the third major won’t be impacted much because of it. The reason for the same is that most changes, as per the memo sent by Jay Monahan, will likely take place after the 2023 season. Hence, the OWGR points will be distributed just like the other two golf majors. Therefore, a possible scenario of Jon Rahm re-ascending to professional glory was presented on Twitter.

One of the Twitter handles named Nosferatu also chimed in with a powerful prediction regarding the upcoming US Open 2023. The user tweeted,”#OWGR No.1 watch: @JonRahmpga will have the chance to dethrone Scottie Scheffler from No.1 spot at the @usopengolf”. As per Nosferatu’s take, if the Spaniard manages to claim a victory or even register an individual second-berth finish, he would surpass Scottie Scheffler on the OWGR list.

Currently, the American star sits comfortably in the first position in the world rankings. However, if Rahm achieves the feat, it won’t so comfortable for Scheffler on the top. He ascended to the position after a brilliant display of golfing skills at Oak Hills this year. Even though it was Brooks Koepka who was crowned the winner, Scheffler did not disappoint in delivering some of the best in-game action.

The last time the Spanish golf star scaled up to the first position on the OWGR list was after his magnificent Master’s win.

Jon Rahm’s consistent strive toward the World No.1 spot

For the past few years, the OWGR list seems to be incomplete without Rahm’s name in it. The Spanish star has made a habit of delivering striking performances, enabling him to maintain a consistent streak at the Top-10 of the World Rankings. After turning Pro in 2016, it was in the year 2019 that the Spaniard first ascended to that prestigious spot on the OWGR catalog.

However, the 2021 US Open witnessed something completely envious. Rahm maintained a constant hold of the top spots, all thanks to his above-par golfing techniques.

Continuing his impressive record, the 2021 US Open winner with his earnest efforts once again became World No.1 after Genesis Invitational this season. Although the Players Championship witnessed a slight descent in his standings to second place, he was quick to take back the top berth in the OWGR with the Masters 2023 title beside his name.

Sadly the golfer’s PGA Championship T-50 finish resumed the unwelcomed cycle of his dethroning. The US Open 2023 seems like the perfect opportunity for the star to gain back his standing.
