What could be more important than the 2025 Masters Tournament right now? Every fan would agree that the action from Augusta National is the thing to watch this week. With Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau paired up together and going neck-and-neck, there is nothing more enthralling than the scenes in the Green Jacket event. Well, that is what most golf fans would think, at least. But the crew of CBS Network is not one of them, it seems.

When any other golf channel would be dying to have the opportunity to broadcast the 2025 Masters Tournament, CBS is busy showcasing the musical range of John Legend. Every person, whether a golf fan or not, is frustrated with what made the recognized commercial broadcast company choose to switch away from the Green Jacket event. What’s even more shocking is that CBS had specifically advertised that they would be showing live strokeplay from Augusta National a few hours ago.

Golf on CBS had tweeted, “It’s Sunday at the Masters. Final Round coverage begins now on Paramount+ and continues at 2 PM ET on CBS and Paramount+.” The same can be confirmed on the CBS Sports website, which has the 2025 Masters Tournament scheduled from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. (EST). Yet, they failed to deliver on their schedule.

Netizens lash out at CBS for abysmal broadcast decision

Missing any of the action from the 2025 Masters Tournament was bound to get the fans frustrated. Even the tournament officials faced the wrath of patrons as an abrupt broadcast schedule of the first round of this year’s Green Jacket event made them miss the first few hours of the tournament. One of them didn’t mince his words this time around as well as they tweeted, “Why the f is John legend playing the opening of the masters???? Please.” Hoping to see McIlroy and DeChambeau tee off, anything else on CBS would have ticked anyone off. Interestingly, Legend has also been under the scanner recently over quite a few controversies. So CBS Sports’ decision to schedule the 12x Grammy winner on the channel is even more surprising.

Is CBS's John Legend broadcast a slap in the face to golf fans everywhere?

Someone also wanted to watch Corey Conners play instead of his peers at Augusta National. Yet, they had to bear listening to John Legend instead. They commented, “Why am I watching John legend when Corey Conners is putting. Be better CBS.” The fan believes that CBS Sports could do a better job of managing its telecast. As per reports, CBS has faced a lot of broadcast issues recently as customers are constantly complaining about bad coverage and downtime. Back in April 2024, they also faced criticism for an unexpected disruption during the Billy Joel Concert. Interestingly, back then as well it was conflicting with the 2024 Masters Tournament broadcast.

The bashing of CBS and John Legend continued as fans kept criticizing them both. One fan tweeted, “The schmalzy John Legend beginning is a new low for CBS’s overdramatic Masters treatment.” They certainly had no time for the drama from Legend and preferred watching what was going on at Augusta National instead. Another believed that this was CBS’s attempt to promote the award-winning singer as the entertainment on the golf course. They said, “Ol’ EBizzle gets bitter when CBS tries to turn John Legend into the new #MastersMusic! @EBJunkies @moneymetalcakes #goff,” suggesting John Legend will compose the new Masters music theme.

Speaking from experience, a fan said that they know what the golf community wants. They commented, “Nantz and CBS make this almost unwatchable! John Legend,? WTF make me puke! I’ve been there, the fans: patrons do not want this shit!” As a fellow patron, they wanted Jim Nantz, John Legend, and CBS as far away from the 2025 Masters Tournament as possible.
