With all the anticipation and predictions going on for the last few weeks, the much-awaited Ryder Cup is finally here at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. As we all know, the captain of the European Ryder Cup team, Luke Donald, is an Englishman representing his motherland.
But what about his better half? Is she also English? As per reports, she is not, and is born in the United States. Hence, she is subjected to several rumors about her nationality and loyalty to the English team. To clarify the confusion, Donald turns down all rumors in style.

As per tradition, the International Ryder Cup brings in a lot of controversy every year. One such word on the street that has been circulating lately is Luke Donald’s wife Diane Antonopoulos’s faithfulness to the English squad, given she is the consort of the captain.
The rumors spiked because of Diane’s nationality. While the lady is of Greek descent, her birthplace is America. Hence, hours ahead of the face-off, Donald, in a press conference, was asked humorously if he was sleeping with his enemy. Donald replied like a husband who has got his wife’s back.
He said, “Not tricky at all. My wife’s parents were born in Greece. She has a lot of strong European roots, and my number one fan. There’s quite a few guys on our team that have US wives. It’s really not a problem. They are 100 percent behind us.” What a response!
Furthermore, he was asked if Diane favored Europe over America. To which he again gave a confident answer, “Of course.” Apart from this, there’s another major concern that puts Donald in a bit of a spot.

Rory McIlroy is one of the most experienced players in the European squad. Besides, he has seen many triumphs and failures in the biennial event, given that this is his seventh appearance. Also, he is one of the oldest hands on the team, after Shane Lowry and Justin Rose. As a result, he has a peculiar sort of governing audacity within the team, which normally is a captain’s role.

Other than these, reports even say he has played a role in decisions about team pairings. Of course, such an excellent mind would have all the necessary knowledge. McIlroy though turns down the assumptions regarding his dominating position and asserts that he is equal to the other eleven team members. Not sure if Luke Donald is going to believe McIlroy.
