In an interview with ESPN 1000 Chicago, Greg Norman made some comments on the whole situation. He refrained from giving up complete information but said they are receiving a considerable number of interests. Broadcasters are interested in LIV Golf.

LIV Golf is struggling with a decision. Since its inception, the league has not secured a television deal for itself. Instead, they broadcast all their tournaments on YouTube. According to the reports, the league has been in meetings and discussions with many networks dating back to early 2022.

They have been receiving huge responses and applications for broadcasting. Despite that, they haven’t been able to land any solution regarding the broadcasting agreement.

Commenting on the whole situation, James Colgan, the assistant editor at ‘Golf Magazine’, tweeted, In an interview with @ESPN1000, Greg Norman says LIV Golf is in “live conversations” with “four different networks” for a media rights deal.”

What did Greg Norman say?

Fans all know the tepid interest controls LIV Golf’s YouTube situation from the networks. They are the main drivers. According to these networks, LIV Golf has many controversial ties, which lead to blocking the incoming profit. But Norman thinks otherwise.

During the interview with ESPN 1000, he argued about the situation. He said that the case was the opposite. And there are many bidders on the line, trying to win the bidding war for LIV’s broadcast rights.

Norman told ESPN 1000 that networks can see the value that the product as in LIV Golf is providing. And hence, there is a bidding war. He said, “We’re talking to four different networks — and live conversations where offers are being put on the table. Because [the networks] can see the value of our product, they can see what we’re delivering.”

How the bidding works

Fans should not forget that there is an interest underlying here. Norman’s appeal lies in networks having a bidding war for broadcast rights. A network bids for a sports property’s television or streaming rights during a bidding war. This bid by networks will depend upon the total advertisement revenue the league can generate.

If there comes a situation of only one bidder emerging, the network is bound to be incentivized. It has to provide a lowball offer that will maximize the potential profits.

But there can be a situation where multiple bidders emerge instead of just one. If that happens, all the power is in the hands of the league. It may leverage the networks to war against each other for broadcasting rights. Now, each network will have to develop a better and more competitive offer.
