Can Esther Henseleit’s recent success propel her to the Solheim Cup? What do you think?

Seeing how I played last week under pressure assured me that I’m doing the right things in practice,” said Esther Henseleit after the first round of the 2024 ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open. And who could doubt it? Just two weeks ago, the German national won her first international event. Henseleit was still in awe when she donned the silver medal at Le Golf National. With a stunning seven-birdie final round, she took the second spot on the podium at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 6-under 66, two strokes behind Lydia Ko. Well, luck seems to be following the 25-year-old.

After her celebrations in Paris, Esther Henseleit carded all under-par rounds (70-71-66-70) at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open. This bagged her yet another second-position finish. With a score of 11 under 277, she was left four strokes behind Lauren Coughlin this time. Her performance at Ayeshire might not have brought her silverware but it surely helped her grab a special spot in the women’s circuit.

The qualifying period for the 2024 Solheim Cup started at the Aramco Team Series in 2022. It will finally come to an end this month with the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open and the AIG Women’s Open in the coming week. LPGA Tour pro, Esther Henseleit was just five points shy of the Solheim Cup through her LET points, after winning silver in Paris.

Having grabbed the runner-up position, she bagged the required points, and she has confirmed a spot for herself in the European team of the biennial event. The official Instagram account of Solheim Cup Euro took to their feed and made the announcement. “Following a superb couple of weeks, Esther Henseleit has moved into an automatic spot heading into the final qualifying week,” they wrote.

Apart from Henseleit, the top two players from the LET standings have already been finalized. The first was Charley Hull, who bagged the spot. With top-3 finishes during her last qualification tenure, she became the first to have an automated spot for the team through the standings. But is LET the only list that has gotten players for the European Tour in Virginia?

Celine Boutier from France is in the top 10 (8) of the Rolex World Player list. This has automatically secured her a spot on the European team. She has managed to play 48 events so far, collecting an average point of 4.92. Charley Hull, although qualified through the LET, makes a case for qualifying through the world rankings as well. Along with Boutier, she too lies in the top-10 list.

Apart from the three players, the Solheim Cup Euro team’s Instagram page has announced the official presence of five other players. Maja Stark, Linn Grant, Leona Maguire, Carlota Ciganda, and Madelene Sagstrom. They are all in the top 35 in the Rolex World Player standings, automatically bagging a spot to represent Europe at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in September.
