The 2025 International Series of LIV Golf will kick off this week. The 2024 season began with the International Series Oman, which was won by LIV Golf’s Torque GC player, Carlos Ortiz. The Mexican professional golfer faced a formidable field, with Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, and Joaquin Niemann chasing him down the last few holes. Ortiz eventually won the title with a four-stroke lead.
This time around, the Saudi-based league has added a new destination to the series: India. Top Asian Tour and LIV Golf players will play in the International Series India, presented by DLF. This will be the first time an International Series will be played in India. It will also bring major obstacles for all the players on the entry list. They will be facing off against the 2024 U.S. Open champion; Bryson DeChambeau. But will DeChambeau & the others play for vital OWGR points? Let’s find out.

Can Bryson DeChambeau win OWGR points in India?
There is no question about the fact that Bryson DeChambeau will be the best player on the course in India. But that doesn’t guarantee that he will win the International Series India. The field will also include other challengers like Joaquin Niemann, Paul Casey, Caleb Surratt, and Indian LIV Golf player; Anirban Lahiri. Have they traveled to India in hopes of getting OWGR points?
Well, they wouldn’t have because the International Series India does not offer World Golf Ranking points. Unlike all the other International Series events, their tour of India does not hold any OWGR points. This can be confirmed on the official OWGR website. While this may disappoint the players, the golf fans in India will still be overjoyed to have such big names perform in their country.

Pathway to LIV Golf
The International Series is considered a pathway for golfers from around the world to enter LIV Golf. Those who top the leaderboard at the end of the season may end up winning lucrative contracts from the PIF-backed league. Even winning a tournament in the International Series can attract offers from LIV Golf teams. Hence, the Saudi-based promotion has always promoted the Series to scout great talents from around the world and bring them to LIV Golf. It is worth noting that the winners of the 2024 International Series didn’t get promoted as LIV Golf had promised. This infuriated the fans with some calling it a scam.

Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquin Niemann, and the others might not need a LIV Golf contract. But having them on the field guarantees that more players would be eager to participate in the tournament. That makes it easy for the LIV Golf officials to search for talent and sign them before the rival leagues. Hence, DeChambeau & co. are participating in the tournament despite the fact that they won’t get OWGR points even if they win over the weekend.
