In the sports world, players often have certain expectations of their fellow players, even if they are opponents. It is the epitome of fair play, leading to disappointments. It was the same for both Phil Mickelson and Cameron Smith. The pros are the captains of two LIV Golf Team Championship teams in Miami. The captain of Punch GC, Smith, was unhappy with the Hy Flyers GC team captain.

In the press conference, Smith came clean and unveiled his disappointment with the performance of the PGA tour player’s gamesmanship. Is Phil Mickelson losing his charm?

During LIV’s Captains’ Selection Press Conference yesterday, a reporter asked Smith about his match with the major championship winner Mickelson. The reporter wanted his thoughts on the game, as it was an epic back-and-forth between the LIV golfers. The 2022 Open Championship winner seemed slightly disappointed with the performance of the 45 PGA tour event winner.

Smith agreed that it was a splendid match; however, the gamesmanship of Mickelson was off, according to him. He said“Yeah, it was a good match. I think Phil maybe had some gamesmanship in there a little bit.” He found the match to be a painful experience because the pros were three or four holes behind, which was not expected. However, besides that, he considered the match to be good.

The Players Championship winner said he expected to hole more putts, but he did not. However, the job was done satisfactorily, and both players struck the ball well enough to reach the next round.

The off-performance of Mickelson was reflected in the final match as well. The British Open Champion Cameron Smith was able to eliminate Mickelson’s team from the tournament. He carded a 7-foot birdie putt on the last hole at Trump National Doral and said his goodbyes to the Hy Flyers GC team.
