Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have been close competitors at the highest level for more than two decades now. The pair share a healthy rivalry that has elevated each’s game. But with Mickelson already over 50 and playing at the LIV Golf Series, their competitiveness seems to be slowing. But the fire is yet to be extinguished, which was evident in a Twitter exchange between Woods and Mickelson last year. It also included a comment from the latter’s sister, who poked fun at the 52-year-old.

Nevertheless, in November last year, the 15-time major championship winner posted a brief clip that served as major progress to Woods’ return to golf. In the video, he was seen hitting a few golf balls as he made his way back to the game. The tweet garnered a lot of attention, amassing around 200k likes.

The tweet got many people talking, including Phil Mickelson. The 6-time major championship winner made the news last year after winning the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. His achievement created a new record in the history books, with Mickelson becoming the oldest major championship winner at 50.

Upon seeing Woods’ practice, Mickelson believed that his close competitor was on a mission. In a tweet that ignited the rivalry, ‘Lefty’ claimed that Woods couldn’t stand his rival holding a record. “I know he can’t stand me holding a single record so I’m guessing HE wants to be the oldest to ever win a major,” Mickelson said in his tweet.
