What do you think of Phil Mickelson? Well, by the time you let us know, we can let you know the golfing world’s verdict. Some of them think that Lefty is “full of BS! (bulls**t).” The reason? His bold, unapologetic stances, of course! Mickelson’s never been one to sugarcoat his opinions, and he’s always spoken his mind without worrying about the consequences. Whether he’s bashing Jay Monahan & Co. or praising LIV Golf as the superior choice.

And guess what? He did it again! This time, in his interview with Fox Business, Mickelson claimed that LIV Golf isn’t competing with the PGA Tour but rather complementing it. “We’re the first global model. We’re able to bring the best players and the best teams across the world now. We’re trying to grow the game on a global basis.” And if you look at their 2025 schedule too, he was not lying. Their 2025 season is being hosted in 4 other countries outside of the US. (Riyadh, Adelaide, Hong Kong, and Singapore). Moreover, Bryson DeChambeau, along with his crew, is packing their bags for India!

But that’s not all! Mickelson took it a step further, strategically rallying support for LIV Golf. “We’re additive. We’re only 14 weeks of the year; there are 38 other weeks of golf. We’re all in this together. We want to grow the fanbase; we want to grow the game through the world and the United States.”

And, as expected, Phil Mickelson didn’t hesitate to throw some shade at his former partners. “The PGA Tour has done a great job for many, many years, but they’re kind of a national, US-centric-based model, where we’re much more global, much more focused on a younger target audience. We’re much younger and different demographics that we’re trying to hit and we’re trying to make the fan experience on site, much more enjoyable. So we’re additive rather than competitive,” he said.

LIV Golf’s events are more like one big party, whereas PGA Tour’s events are more on the traditional side. It has even been reported that one of the main hurdles of the $3 billion merger between PIF and PGA Tour is that a few players are not willing to play outside the US, and this is not sitting right with the PIF as they are all about expanding the game. Well, this isn’t the first time Mickelson has made waves with his comments.

In 2023, the lefty suggested that the PGA Tour is borrowing from LIV Golf’s playbook. When asked if the PGA Tour had adopted LIV Golf’s approach, he responded, “You asked that as a question. It should be more of a statement about the fingerprints.” Mickelson’s comments were a nod to the fact that the PGA Tour’s new format, featuring $20 million no-cut, limited-field designated events, bears a striking resemblance to LIV Golf’s model. When asked about these changes, Mickelson was quick to share his thoughts.

“I’m happy to see it; I’m happy to see it for the [PGA] Tour,” he said. “I think there will always be a need and a want for traditional golf. And there’s always an opportunity to innovate and to allow LIV to be additive and create something new and different.”

And just like all the time, the golf fans have slammed Greg Norman’s loyalist.

Golf fans trolled Phil Mickelson for declaring LIV an ‘additive’ to the PGA Tour

One fan brutally joked, “LIV must not be re-signing Phil. Hopefully, he can pay his gambling debts with team equity.” Mickelson’s gambling habits have been a long-standing joke among fans. He even faced some harsh allegations of wagering over $1 billion on sports and $400,000 on Team USA to win the Ryder Cup in 2012.

But Mickelson’s past isn’t the only thing haunting him. His decision to co-found Coffee Wellness in 2022, after his wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, raised eyebrows. One fan sarcastically chimed in, “He also believes the world is flat and coffee cures cancer.” Harsh! Another fan called out Mickelson’s comments as senseless talks, saying, “He’s so full of bs!” But the roasting didn’t stop there.

“Oh, new talking points have been released. ‘ Additive.’ It’s funny how that has never been used before until LIV realized they were not getting viewers on any platform.” LIV Golf’s viewership has been declining too, just like the PGA Tour, but with the new deal with Fox Sports, things might get better. It remains to be seen though.

“Then don’t play half ur tournaments in the US.” commented one fan. Well, as per them, so much global representation with events taking place in the US as well.  As the criticism piled up, another fan echoed the sentiment, saying, “They were revolutionizing the game, now they’re additive. How long before they’re a footnote?”
