If the sheer amount of money thrown by LIV shocks you, brace yourself for more shocks next year. On the heels of Phil Mickelson’s revelation of newer marquee players joining LIV in the seasons ahead, another veteran, Bubba Watson, makes a staggering revelation about his own team.

Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, and Joaquin Niemann spoke to the media ahead of the $50 million LIV Miami event at the Trump National Doral. Among many things, franchise opportunities came up. While both the honchos of 4Aces GC and Torque GC remained coy about it, Bubba Watson opened up after sidestepping the question initially. As per the golfer’s words, a potential cash flow is on the cards.

Currently, there is no ‘franchise’ team in LIV golf. Although Ian Poulter‘s Majesticks GC has secured sponsorship by signing a deal with OKX, a global cryptocurrency company, no team is entirely owned by a third-party entity.

As per the LIV Golf agreement, the Public Investment Fund, which bankrolls the league, owns 75% of each team’s stake, with 25% resting at the firm grasp of team captains.

Bubba Watson, the caption of RangeGoats GC, claims potential buyers are there for his team. They have been knocking at his door since their maiden season victory at LIV Singapore. “There was (sic) three in Singapore, and then after Singapore the floodgates opened, there was even more.” The number is by no means limited to single digits as the caption of RangeGoats GC himself reveals, “anywhere from 10 to 20 people have asked to buy the RangeGoats.”

The 44-year-old golfer himself owns a Minor League Baseball team, Pensacola Blue Wahoos. So he is familiar with these nuances of business discussion. While Dustin Johnson has clearly set out his time for management and sponsorship discussion for the off-season, the two-time Major winner is already in talks with some of them. “There’s been talk this week. I met with people this week.

Incidentally, Talor Gooch, a member of RangeGoats GC and currently #1 on the leaderboard, also owns the individual championship in Singapore. A win in the Miami event might generate even more interest for the young American International and his team.

With LIV already offering a staggering sum of money to its players, franchise partnerships will inflate the purse further. A potential deal with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour will also allow the leaf-behinds to have a shot at bountiful riches.
