Another dream crushed in the golf community? Well, not just yet. Remember how Keegan Bradley got selected as the 2025 Ryder Cup Captain by the PGA of America and how it left everyone in utter disbelief? Well, a bombshell bigger than that just hit the news, and you’ll never get what it was.
Recently the Fore Play on X announced Bradley will choose a player for next year’s Ryder Cup regardless of on which tour they play. This can mean that PGA Tour Pros like Brooks Koepka, Colin Morikawa, and LIV golfers will have to work harder to be on the player list and play in the extremely sought-after Ryder Cup.
“I just want the 12 best players”, read the X post. Earlier the rules for LIV players to qualify for the Ryder Cup were pretty straightforward. If a LIV Golf player does well in majors, they might be chosen to play in the Ryder Cup and could represent their country in a big golf competition. But now with this announcement, Bradley will be hand-picking the top 12 players on the OWGR rankings. And it does not go in LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau’s favor.

Everyone knows how much Bryson DeChambeau wants to represent the USA at the Ryder Cup. “Look, I’ve played in a couple of Ryder Cups and I would love to represent my country, there’s no doubt about that,” he told the Mirror. Bryson DeChambeau is currently holding the 9th position in the OWGR Ranking. And with no more majors to play this year, they’re likely to go down, as LIV Golf does not reward its players for the crucial OWGR Points.
The only way for the 2-time major winner to level up his game in the 2025 season will be to play exceptional golf at the majors, just like he did this year. He won the 2024 U.S. Open with an outstanding score of 6 under par, but that’s not all. He also finished as a runner-up at this year’s PGA Championship. In addition, he finished T6 at the Masters Tournament.

LIV European golfer’s uncertain future at the Ryder Cup
It came as no surprise when Captain Luke Donald made it clear that players on the rival LIV Tour, like Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, won’t get automatic spots on the European Ryder Cup team. So what will they need to get their spots on the European team? To be eligible, players must be part of the DP World Tour and follow its rules. And Donald still gets to choose six players himself.

Previously, picking the team was a hassle as described by Guy Kinnings, the European Tour boss. With two different lists and points systems, it was hard to choose the eligible players. That’s why Kinnings came up with this new idea and said, “This is without question a much cleaner and simpler qualification system than the ones utilised in previous years,” according to BBC.
This change sets the stage for an exciting Ryder Cup match against the US team at Bethpage Black next September. What do you think of the new qualification rule? Let us know in the comment section below!
