Is Bryson DeChambeau's loyalty to LIV Golf a bold move or a career-ending mistake?

Bryson DeChambeau has been shining this year! The LIV Golf pro has secured two more top-10 finishes since his impressive victory at Pinehurst No. 2. However, veteran golfers Paul McGinley and Brandel Chamblee have expressed their opinions on how they believe Bryson DeChambeau prioritizes different aspects of his golf career.

The retired Irish pro now holds a seat at Golf Channel as an analyst of the sport. In a video snippet shared by the X handle Nuclr Golf, the veteran was seen praising Bryson DeChambeau’s gameplay and weighing in on how the scientist might not need to compete in many tournaments to do well in majors. He further opined on the role of LIV Golf in the 30-year-old’s life, stating, “I don’t think he’s that interested in how he plays on LIV.”

Fellow golf analyst Brandel Chamblee also chimed in, agreeing with the 57-year-old. Chamblee gave LIV Golf the tag of a side hustle for DeChambeau and stated, “it’s a part-time job,” which got a few chuckles from the panel.

Bryson DeChambeau has never been shy about expressing his love and appreciation for the fans. He has repeatedly emphasized the crucial role they play, declaring, “The fans are what drive this sport.” The nine-time PGA Tour winner even believes that entertaining the fans is just as important as winning trophies, as he said during the 2024 PGA Championship: “Being able to entertain the fans is what we’re all here to do.”

This gratitude towards the fans seems to have paid off. Many flocked to the internet to show their support for the two-time major champion, all the while denouncing the opinions of McGinley and Chamblee.

After men’s professional golf was divided into two parts, namely LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, one of the very few times golfers from both leagues tee off together is at the majors. This year, DeChambeau has been lighting up the major greens with spectacular performances, starting off by breaking his longstanding curse at the Masters with a T6 finish. Taking this into account, one fan said, “I mean it kind of makes sense.. considering he’s on fire for PGA events.”

Augusta National was just a glimpse of what was about to come in the upcoming majors. The Scientist once again pulled up his socks and was just one stroke away from winning his second major title at the 2024 PGA Championship. However, it was Xander Schauffele who took the Wanamaker Trophy home. Lady Luck smiled upon DeChambeau at Pinehurst when he secured his second major title, edging out Rory McIlroy by one stroke. Keeping an eye on his recent success, another user commented, “I mean we measure success off of majors sooooo.”

Considering DeChambeau’s performance in the LIV Golf tournaments this year, he has been performing well in those as well, especially recently. In a total of ten LIV Golf events that the 30-year-old has played, he has secured a top 10 spot in six of those. Also, his team ‘Crushers GC’ is, currently, the number-one team in the PIF-funded circuit’s team rankings. Perceiving that McGinley and Chamblee don’t have any knowledge of LIV Golf events, a user commented, “Tell me how you never watched LIV without telling me you never watched LIV.”

From the very beginning, one of the most vocal voices against LIV Golf has been Brandel Chamblee. But this time around, his opinion regarding the breakaway league was met with a stern response from one of the LIV Golf fans, as they stated, “Saw this live and was left speechless, ridiculously inaccurate and bad work on both of them.”

The two-time US Open winner is currently the highest-paid LIV golfer. DeChambeau, so far, has made $13,062,167; out of this, $4,194,167 as an individual pro and 1,875,000 as a team captain at the breakaway circuit. Pointing to this and taking a sarcastic dig on the ‘part-time’ comment of the veteran golfers about DeChambeau, a user said, “Pretty good paying part time job.”
