Bryson DeChambеau defected from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, citing ‘freedom’ and ‘better work-life balance’ as reasons. He claimed that getting more money for playing less did not seem like a bad idea. Moreover, he also gets a chance to build his businesses while playing in the Saudi league, unlike the PGA Tour. With DeChambeau’s “way better deal than the tour” remarks one can safely suffice that as per him, that is the truth! But do numbers agree with his remarks? 

But is LIV Golf better than the PGA Tour in terms of Bryson DeChambeau’s earnings as well? Hearing his remarks about both the leagues, enticed us to look into the earnings that the golfer has had from LIV Golf this year, and how it compares to his prior-defection PGAT earnings. 

Bryson DeChambeau’s LIV Golf paychecks 

DеChambеau played in 13 LIV Golf events this year. He ended up winning two events, one in Greenbrier, and one in Chicago. His victories helped him bag prize money worth $8 million combined. He had another marvelous finish this year at Andalucia wherein he finished in second place, taking $2.25 million home. Another stunning finish at T5 in Tulsa helped him earn $703,333. DeChambeau’s team, Crushers GC earned $14 million in Miami.

Combining all of his stellar finishes, the Scientist has earned $14.7 million from LIV Golf this year. The 2020 US Open winner has competed in 21 events in the rival league so far. He has made a whopping $20,645,677 in those events, averaging out at $983,127 per event. DeChambeau’s individual earnings for the two seasons come down to $15,284,250. 

The 30-year-old has played in all four majors this year and was able to earn in three of those tournaments. At the PGA Championship, he finished at T4 and earned $720,000. After finishing in the 20th spot at the US Open, he earned $200,152, and at the Open Championship, he brought home $39,900. 

Coming back to his LIV Golf is better than the PGA Tour remarks, or how the Saudi-funded league offers a better deal to its players, it is only right to compare his LIV earnings to that of the PGA Tour.

How much did DeChambeau earn on the PGA Tour? 

During his tenure at the PGA Tour, Bryson DeChambeau competed in 144 official events. In these events, he won 8 times, had 37 top-10 finishes, and was able to finish in the second position five times. He made 102 cuts out of the 144 events he played, and after all the hard work, he was able to earn an impressive sum of $27,479,287 from the PGA Tour.

As per our calculations, the former PGAT pro was able to earn $190,828 per event from the Tour event. If numbers are to be believed, DeChembeau came very close to his Tour earnings, in the Saudi league in just 2 years. He еarnеd morе monеy pеr event on thе LIV Golf than he did on thе PGA Tour.
