Going back in time, fitness in golf was a thing not known about by many. However, it was the rise of Tiger Woods that prompted the importance of fitness in the sport of golf. Walking on the same path as the 15-time major champion is Bryson DeChambeau. Recalling the debut years of DeChambeau was known as a lean player. However, developing himself over the years, he today stands as one of the most muscular pros in the sport.

His transformation journey kicked off in the off-season of 2019. As per reports, the former US Open gained a whopping 30 pounds of muscle during that phase. Something, that developed even further during the COVID-19 quarantine period. Two years into bulking on his body, it was in 2021 that he opened up about how fitness has affected his game.

Bryson DeChambeau opens up about the impact of fitness in his game

Bryson DeChambeau is commonly known as the ‘mad scientist’. A phrase, that arguably rightly defines his scientifically calculated shots. In 2021, he released a video on his Youtube channel. The video featured him conversing with the fitness maestro, Greg Roskopf.

During the conversation, DeChambeau opened up about how can a compromise in fitness affect his scientifically played golf. “One of the most interesting things to me is that I always break my golf swing down to a science, where every little motion is just as important as the next,” he said.

“If you aren’t taking care of the internal rotation of your forearm, then you could be deviating face angles quite a bit,” he added.

Bulking on his body, DeChambeau today enjoys the pleasure of being one of the longest drivers in the game. Hitting 402 yards, DeChambeau won the Longest Drive at a match in November last year i.e. 2021. An achievement, that rightly justifies the importance of fitness in golf.

Going ahead in the conversation, DeChambeau asserted, “If you’re a golfer, this will take your game to the next level. It took my game to the next level and it took my life to the next level.”

With his fitness in place, DeChambeau today stands as one of the most prominent names in the golf world. The 29-year-old yesterday wrapped the Chicago leg of LIV Golf, finishing at the 10th spot.

He is next expected to play the Bangkok leg of LIV Golf from the 7th to the 9th of October.
