Did Bryson DeChambeau get unfairly snubbed for the Presidents Cup? What are your thoughts?

In the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Course, Wyndham Clark made several mistakes. The Colorado native finished even par in the first round in a most topsy-turvy fashion. On the back nine, he recorded two double bogeys, two bogeys, three birdies, and one par. He performed better in the next two rounds, but the fourth round was his worst. He finished 2-over par with three bogeys, one double bogey, three birdies, and ten pars.

Clark finished T13 at Castle Pines and 6th overall in the FedEx Cup Rankings, which automatically qualified him for the President’s Cup team. The qualification period for the President’s Cup, scheduled for next month, ended after the BMW Championship.

However, US team fans are less than satisfied by his inclusion. Having witnessed his struggles in the Olympics and Team USA’s struggles in the Ryder Cup in 2023, fans want America to be great again. And certainly, America is great, counting immense talents like Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka among their countrymen.

Unfortunately, LIV golfers are ineligible to participate in the PGA Tour-owned event. Expecting the worst outcome in Montreal next month, fans voiced their opinions on social media.

Bryson screwed again. Get brooks on there too,” tweeted a Twitter user, commenting on the PGA Tour’s post of the graphic showing the automatic picks. The user simply wants the best golfers from the USA to play for Team USA. Indeed, Bryson DeChambeau has led his LIV Golf team, Smash GC, to the top of the standings and won the US Open this year. This sentiment was echoed by another user who summed it up: So Wyndham Clark but no dechambeau ridiculous”.

The issue with the President’s Cup being a PGA Tour event is that, unlike the Ryder Cup, no LIV golfer is eligible to play in it. As long as the two rival tours do not come under a single ranking system, there cannot be any objective way of determining who is having a better year than another. One user, recognizing how this system worked in favor of Wyndham Clark, said, Wyndham Has to love LIV Golf.” Another user shared the same sentiment, “It is a set up and I hope they crash like Ryders — until a fair uniform system the whole thing is a sham.”

Other commenters felt Wyndham Clark was simply not cut out for the competition. They were unimpressed by his OWGR Ranking, noting that he finished outside the top 30 in 10 events and that his game seems to lack consistency—just look at his performance at Castle Pines. His first and last rounds were wildly different from his second and third. “Wyndham needs to go”  one user wrote, another wrote “Is there a cut for Wyndham to miss?”

Contrary to what some fans want, Wyndham Clark will be playing in the President’s Cup along with Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, and Xander Schauffele in September at the Royal Montreal Golf Club from September 24 to September 29, representing Team USA. Captain’s picks are still to be announced to complete the twelve.
