Has Bryson DeChambeau finally silenced his critics with his latest act of sportsmanship?

You can argue that Bryson DeChambeau is the biggest needle mover at Le Golf. He isn’t physically there, but his presence is felt no less than that of the others. Team USA kicked off their Olympic campaign with two solid performances from Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele. In a different world, perhaps Bryson DeChambeau would’ve joined them.

Fans surely wanted him to be there. But without OWGR points, the LIV golf pro can only cheer from home. The U.S. Open champion tweeted, “Shoutout to the guys in Paris this week. Of course I would love to be out there competing with them, but no matter the situation, I’ll always be rooting for a Team USA victory.

While DeChambeau didn’t namecheck anyone on social media amid lingering hostilities, his words came as a welcome surprise. His absence has been a talking point among players. His LIV golf comrade, Jon Rahm, demanded that respective countries should be given more autonomy in choosing theirteams.  Abraham Ancer, another of his LIV golf peers, agreed wholeheartedly.

Rory McIlroy, without explicitly going into the issue, somewhat agreed. The Ulsterman said that without all the top players, the Olympic field would be somewhat weaker than the majors. Xander Schauffele was more ambiguous on the matter.

Bryson obviously played really well and has played well in the majors overall, and won the U.S. Open in fashion. I’m not sure how to include or rank events and those things.” Schauffele’s comments came a few days after Bryson DeChambeau lauded him for netting two majors.

I’ve looked at him and been like, ‘Man, if I can beat him, that’s really good. He’s going to be great for a long time,’” The Crushers captain didn’t hide his admiration for Schauffele, with whom he competed in junior golf and college golf. DeChambeau’s seeming nonchalance to the PGA Tour – LIV golf divide has earned him the respect of fans. On this occasion, too, they came in hoards to laud the two-time major winner.

Fans want Bryson DeChambeau in place of Wyndham Clark

Interestingly, Bryson DeChambeau refused to dawdle on a missed opportunity. The Crushers captain was already looking forward to 2028 when the Olympics golf came to Riviera. There was no sign of acrimony when he talked about the Olympics previously.

This time too, the two-time major winner chose to forget the past differences. One user wrote, “Classy. As always. Wish you were out there but so much respect for you sending out this post.

Only a few years ago, DeChambeau was the outcast on the PGA Tour for his apparent ‘arrogance.’ Joining LIV Golf and then suing the PGA Tour only worsened his reputation. However, since foraying into YouTube, Bryson DeChambeau has seen a resurgence in popularity. Noting that, one user tweeted, “You’ve come a long way dude, big fan now.

The Internet’s verdict is that it should’ve been him in Wyndham Clark’s stead. “Im not the biggest Bryson or LIV fan by any means but Wyndham going to Paris instead is silly,” one of them commented. The two have history, of course.

At the Masters, Wyndham Clark took a cheeky jibe at then-round-one leader Bryson DeChambeau. The LIV golfer was eight shots ahead of Clark. However, Clark expected to catch up with him, citing LIV players’ inexperience in playing 72 holes.

We’ve got 54 holes. In LIV Golf they only play 54, so I like my chances,” the former U.S. Open champion said. Clark, who rejected an offer from the PIF-funded side early this year, failed to book a weekend spot, drawing the wrath of LIV fans.

Once again, at Le Golf National, the 30-year-old opened with a 4-over 76. Only two players scored worse. Referring to that one user sarcastically wrote, “Think you could’ve beat a 76 today.”

However, there is a section of fans who think Bryson DeChambeau is suffering the consequences of his actions. “Here’s the thing. You wouldn’t “love to be there” because you 100000000000% had the opportunity to be there and you CHOSE not to be.”  DeChambeau, however, hoped LIV would get OWGR points, making it easier for him to book a spot at the Olympics. Of course, that’s not how it panned out.

Nevertheless, the growing support for Bryson DeChambeau shows much has changed since 2022. A few days ago, the LIV golfer himself jokingly requested an invite to the PGA Tour’s Creator Classic. Now, voicing support for the team where he was denied a spot has increased his popularity multifold.
