It was the final hole at the Pinehurst No. 2. Bryson DeChambeau lined up to take the shot for par at the par-4 18th which would allow him to win the title of the U.S. Open champ. He took the shot. Cheers erupted. But the first person he turned to embrace was none other than his on-course support and caddie, Greg Bodine. Well, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see them hug it out. Especially so since he helped his golfer rake in a major title after joining hands with him in 2023, something which happened “for a reason!”

The ‘Scientist’ parted ways with his caddie, Tim Tucker, in 2021. Since then, he had hired several different people to assist him on the bag. However, he finally found his true partner in Bodine in May. This pivotal moment coincided with the unfortunate day his wife, Kelsey, suffered a miscarriage. Despite this personal tragedy, DeChambeau remained supportive when Bodine later requested a break during the summer.

“Bryson said, ‘Take your time,'” divulged the looper as he recounted the conversation he had with the LIV Golf Pro. He also recalled how DeChambeau would keep an eye out for the caddie as well while showcasing his understanding; “He would check in on me every 4-5 days, didn’t rush me back.” The result? Well, the bagman returned to carry the bags for the golfer at Greenbrier helping him win the event while dishing out a 12-under-par 58 on the final day. Fast forward to the 2024 U.S. Open and Bodine was in tears as he expressed his gratitude for the pro while alluding to the major win; “I knew God opened that door for a reason.”

That’s not all. The duo also emerged victorious at the LIV Golf event in Chicago. Bryson DeChambeau delivered a total of 18 birdies and 5 bogeys, carding a 13-under 206 over the three days of play. This victory marked their second win together, the first being at the 2023 Mayakoba tournament.

Although the 30-year-old and his caddie have not found that much success in 2024 on the LIV Golf League, the same cannot be said for the majors. The two have four top-10 finishes from eight starts in the PIF-funded circuit. The duo, meanwhile, has three top-10 finishes for all the majors for the season including a T6 at the Masters, a T2 at the PGA Championship, and the recent victory at Pinehurst which even elicited praise from the likes of Paige Spiranac, Greg Norman and more!

Bryson DeChambeau rakes in praises from the golf world

“Your #2 @usopengolf was a joy to watch,” conveyed Greg Norman as he shared a picture of DeChambeau holding two U.S. Open trophies while wishing him for the same. The CEO of LIV Golf also mentioned how his “golf, guts, determination, belief, drive, incredible skills and talent – shown with that up and down from the bunker on 18 – was there for all to witness.” The 2-time major champ had chipped in the ball from the bunker to the green following which he was able to hole the same for a par putt.

Spiranac, on the other hand, congratulated the golfer in a tweet while pointing out the amazing golf, drama, and entertainment he dished out. She also shared a video of him holding the trophy for the fans to touch with the caption, “I asked Bryson what’s his ultimate goal in life and he said it’s to grow the game of golf. This is growing the game.”

DeChambeau sure did turn many heads after his win at the 124th U.S. Open. And, one can’t help but agree with the diva when she said, “Really cool moment” after watching him emerge victorious like that amidst the fans.
