Did Bryson DeChambeau just prove he's the real deal, or was it a fluke win over Schauffele?

Fans are the ultimate game-changers who can make or break a golfer’s career. And the one superpower they have held and will forever hold is big TV numbers! Recently, NUCLR Golf made a post on Instagram, talking about the significant drop in The Open TV viewership during Xander Schauffele’s win.

The post read, The Open saw its worst ratings in nearly a decade on Sunday. Just 3.39 million for Xander’s win on NBC and Peacock—a 4% drop from Brian Harman’s win last year and the lowest ratings since 2015, which saw a Monday finish.” The 2023 Open saw an incredible rise in viewership. A whopping 3.4 million viewers watched Brian Harman lift the Claret Jug across NBC, Peacock, and the USA Network.

That’s not all; Schauffele’s victory’s viewership at the Royal Troon was not even close to Bryson DeChambeau’s win at the 2024 U.S. Open. According to Golf Digest, DeChambeau’s exciting win at the 2024 U.S. Open drew big TV numbers! You’re going to want to sit for this one! A staggering 5.9 million people watched the final round, making it the most-watched East Coast final round since 2013. But what’s even more impressive is that 11.4 million people watched the exciting moments when DeChambeau made an incredible par save and Rory McIlroy missed a short putt.

And the best part is that this was the highest viewership since Jordan Spieth’s win at the 2015 U.S. Open. The man of the people proved that day why he was given that nickname. With 17% more people watching, it was NBC’s most-streamed golf event ever. Although DeChambeau missed the cut at the Open Championship, the 2-time major winner is not done with doing great things in his career just yet!

Royal Troon’s loss did not weigh heavily on Bryson DeChambeau’s mind

After a terrible week at the Royal Troon, DeChambeau was devastated as any golfer would be. Still, he took to his X profile to tell the fans that he was going to make a strong comeback. He wrote, “Thanks for all the amazing support this week at The Open. It wasn’t the outcome I was looking for, but we’ll be back stronger next time.” And indeed, he was.
