Brandel Chamblee and the Saudi-backed league. The two share a very strained relationship, with the former expressing his discontentment with the latter whenever possible. However, things took a rare turn after the recent U.S. Open, when LIV Golf Pro Bryson DeChambeau won the event. The analyst had gone ahead to praise the athlete for his gameplay. However, the fans weren’t too receptive to the compliments.

The commentator shared a tweet on his X handle hours ago pointing out the praises he dished out for the 2-time major champ while mentioning how many are trying to discredit him. He did so while replying to a question about him apparently openly rooting against DeChambeau all day on Sunday. His post said, “I’ve thought a lot about how LIV bots, and those they’ve bought, wanted to, for Saudi/MBS/PIF purposes, spread that narrative. Because they have nefarious designs in the game and want to discredit anyone whose goal runs counter to theirs. I lauded Bryson before, during, and after his win, as was befitting his accomplishment.”

Bryson DeChambeau’s first round at the 2024 Masters had, interestingly, earned Chamblee’s praise. “When it comes to golf, he’s an intellectual earthquake that transforms itself into this athletic majesty,” said the analyst while referring to how the golfer uses Science in his gameplay, “Every single move, from taking gold of the club to the way his hands fit on the club, to the way his arms are shaped, has purpose. His purpose is to hit it nine miles – but these are laser-guided missiles.” Although he only finished T6, the LIV Golf pro had, back then, scored a 7-under 65 on the first day, which included eight birdies and one bogey at Augusta National.

Fast forward to the recent major at Pinehurst No. 2. The win by the 30-year-old caused the ex-golfer to receive additional praises; “It’s very entertaining. You can’t deny that, And when you put that with his power and the fact that he does – he does just have a clutch gene.” But such words of praise came after a somewhat negative commentary in the afternoon. And this is exactly what didn’t sit right with the fans!

Netizens find Brandel Chamblee’s Bryson DeChambeau comments ‘extremely biased’

Paige Spiranac had, following DeChambeau’s win, pointed out how Chamblee didn’t even try to hide his hatred for the LIV Golf Professional while attributing his performance to ‘good fortune’. She mentioned, “Brandel saying “good fortune” is why Bryson won the US Open is wild. Doesn’t even try to hide his hatred for him. Smh.” Many fans also shared the same opinion, as they went ahead to reply to the recent tweet as well: “Disagree by a mile. You allowed your opinion to get in the way of calling the golf. It was clear on numerous occasions and I’m not even a LIV fan.”

Some followers on X came forward to comment, “I don’t like LIV and found you extremely biased and quite unbearable at times,” and “You did a terrible job. Completely biased.” The commentator had, apparently, also talked about the 2-time major champ while being favorable to Rory McIlroy, the latter of whom, at a moment in time, led the scoreboard by two strokes. He had carded a total of five birdies, allowing him to shoot past the LIV golfer, only to choke on the final four holes.

Chamblee had also singled out the 2-time U.S. Open champ for his poor driving accuracy and immense luck in finding manageable lies in the native areas. However, a fan couldn’t help but disagree with the comments as they responded, “So was Bryson overly lucky or just damn good? I go with the latter. Side note: the native areas proved less penal than a ubiquitous 4 inches of unmanageable rough. So maybe fairways hit wasn’t as much a requirement after all thereby rendering luck less necessary.” Bryson DeChambeau, meanwhile, had topped the driving distance at the event with a distance of 338.3 in round 4. No wonder the follower ardently expressed his support for the LIV pro.

On the other hand, some users on X didn’t absolutely side with his haters. One of them even commented, “Anyone who thinks we’re biased wasn’t listening. You talked as much about Rory’s concentration issues and wayward irons as you did Bryson’s luck in the “rough.” Some people just hear what they want to hear to fit their narrative.” Apparently, Chamblee didn’t mince his words with the Northern Irishman either, as he said on NBC, “I can’t remember a higher quality player coming up smaller in a big moment down the stretch than that.” He even went ahead to divulge how the 4-time major champ’s technical side is what causes him to lose out and underperform in a contest, alluding to his iron play.

The U.S. Open, regardless of the drama going on in and around the course, was very exciting to watch. One can only wonder, then, how much of an exhilarating contest the upcoming major at Royal Troon will provide us with.
