The journey for a spot on the Ryder Cup team is a tedious one. Having performed well across the past two years, the group of 24 players at the prestigious event have earned their rights to represent their countries. The same was the case, or even more so, for LIV golfers like Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, who defected to the Saudi-backed league.
Nevertheless, Koepka was able to place himself on the squad through captain Zach Johnson’s wildcard picks. But when inquired regarding the same in an interview ahead of the upcoming event, he was not so soft on his LIV Golf brothers as the 33-year-old turned his own back on them, asking them to “play better” no less!

Being the only LIV golfer to participate in the biennial showdown, the professional would be carrying high hopes on his shoulders as he takes to the course in the patriotic showdown. And, in a presser ahead of the same, the defector was expected to respond to the claims of perceived unfairness by the skipper in the selection process.
In the recent press conference, the 9X PGA Tour winner was asked whether his peers at the PIF-funded league were given a fair chance at being selected for the Ryder Cup. To that, the 2017 US Open Winner made sure to mention how he didn’t make the decisions while referring to skipper Johnson, who made the selections while looking at the OWGR standings.
Moreover, he was quick to point out that “everybody had an opportunity to get there,” while referring to how the professional himself got the same chance as any other LIV player and came out on the winning side while alluding to his win at the 2023 PGA Championship.
Besides, the golfer had only one answer to those who could not make it to the patriotic event, and that was to “play better.”
Meanwhile, not everyone would agree with the golfer, especially his LIV counterpart Bryson DeChambeau, who dominated Koepka in the latest LIV Chicago event. The 30-year-old was visibly against the selection process adopted by the captain as he felt it was unfair to look solely at the rankings.

Even as he went from being inside the top 30 to fading away to outside the 100th place on the OWGR after his defection, DeChambeau was able to make waves in the golf world with his insane feats and skills. After the golfer was able to register his second 2023 win in Chicago, he opened up about how the skipper of the US Ryder Cup team should have at least reached out to more people from the PIF-funded league.
The 1X major winner mentioned how it stings a bit that he wasn’t selected despite being in one of the best forms of his career. Moreover, he felt that it was unfair that the players were looked over just because the LIV Golf Series does not provide points for the OWGR leading them to go down in the standings.
