Is the Koepka-McIlroy rivalry the most thrilling in golf right now? Let's hear your thoughts!

How happy were you when you found out that top LIV golfers and PGA Tour pros will battle it out? We were elated, and we are sure you were too. Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will face LIV superstars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in The Match at the end of this year. This exciting tournament will be staged in Las Vegas, and even the golfers competing are “thrilled.” After all, Koepka will be playing against one of his biggest rivals, that is the Northern Irishman. But if you want to see two players in a similar tournament before that, you are in for a treat as it will happen in just 22 days.

Koepka will be making his DPWT return at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship after more than 4 years. The last time he played on DPWT was in 2020 when he teed off at the Saudi Invitational at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in the King Abdullah Economic City. The Dunhill Championship will start on October 6 at the Old Course. The 5x major champion is excited to return to the European golf scene as he said, “I’ve been fortunate to play in several Dunhill Links, as well as two Open Championships at St Andrews over the years, and these trips are always highlights to my year,” according to the tournament’s official website.

The LIV star simply loves the atmosphere on and off the course at the Dunhill, and calls it “fantastic.” Talking more about it, he said, “I was able to play with my father one year and my good friend and caddie, Ricky Elliott, another. Those two weeks will always be very special to me. I love Links golf and St Andrews is my favorite course in the world. I could play there every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it.”

What does Brooks Koepka think of Rory McIlroy?

Earlier this year, Keopka chose McIlroy as the one player he would like to play golf with for the rest of his life if that situation ever comes. In his interview with Claire Rogers on The Scoop, he said, “Most people probably hate this answer, but Rory. There’s a competition. Maybe he’s that way or not, but I’ve got to get one more [major] than him. He will get to five soon, and it’s like a one-up thing… I want to try to be better than him because I think he’s arguably one of the best players ever, so it’s trying to one-up — that’s how it feels anyways.”

In the Netflix series called Full Swing which was aired in 2023, McIlroy said, “Brooks and I are tied on four majors apiece so you don’t really want someone to go by you.’  This was before Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship but it clearly signifies they try to maintain healthy competition and like to one-up each other in their major tally.
