The upcoming LIV Golf Greenbrier is a make-or-break tournament for most. For Matthew Wolff, who joined RangeGoats after a bitter feud with Brooks Koepka last year, a victory here can catapult him inside the top ten in season-long standings. A strong performance from his colleagues can determine RangeGoats’ chances for the season-ending Team Championship. But Bubba Watson and his team chose to stay away from the cutthroat competition.
They are in Springfield, busy with charity work. The team donates goats to Convoy of Hope after each tournament. The number depends on the number of teams they beat. For example, RangeGoats netted a T7 at LIV UK. That meant donating six goats to the ranch. Watson guessed they have donated some 30 goats so far this season.
“Even if we finish second to last, we still beat a team so that one week, even though we didn’t play our best, we still beat a team,” Watson was quoted by Ozarksfirst.com. “It’s every team we beat, doesn’t matter if we win or lose, it’s every team that we beat. We give a goat.”

Watson explained that it’s not just donating a chunk of your prize money; rather, offering livestock is ‘more impactful.’ Livestock, Dr. Jason Streuebel at Convoy of Hope emphasized, could become the difference between life and death in some underprivileged communities.

Convoy of Hope, a non-profit faith-based organization, aims to provide livelihood means to communities in need. They have served 295 million+ people across 130 countries. Watson’s words hinted that the RangeGoats captain has some team plans to witness the impact first-hand.
“In November we’re going to go somewhere in the world and give out the goats and see it be a part of it. It’s a new program, it’s the first year of it… This is something we want to do and we want to be a part of and forget golf,” the LIV golf pro added. Bubba Watson is a man of faith as well.

His motto can be surmised from his tweet after the 2012 Masters triumph. “Most important things in my life- 1. God 2. Wife 3. Family 4. Helping others 5. Golf.” So, the fact that he wants to ‘forget’ the game, which he admitted was ‘killing’ him at one point, is not so surprising. What’s surprising is his team’s name. It’s tempting to connect the two ‘goats’ but they aren’t.
Why Bubba Watson named his team RangeGoats GC
The first thing Bubba Watson did after joining Niblicks GC was to change the name. The franchise was renamed RangeGoats. “It just goes back to the roots of who I am, where I come from. You know, I didn’t live a glamorous lifestyle growing up,” Watson told LIV Golf last year.

The first shot he hit was in the driving range of Tanglewood Golf Course. The head pro there gifted him his first club. On the other hand, the ‘goat’ in RangeGoats is an acronym. But not ‘Greatest Of All Time’.
For the captain, it meant ‘Golfers on a Team’. But the two words (and worlds) will definitely converge when Bubba Watson and his team take the November trip to witness how the goats they donated have helped the folks.
