Meanwhile, the LPGA Tour’s cut line was the top 70 players and ties. However, the new rule states that the upcoming tournaments from the Ladies’ Tour will have a cut line similar to PGA Tour. It too will have a cut line of the top 65 players and ties. The new rule will be implemented from LPGA Drive On Championship at Superstition Mountain from March 23-26.
It will be the Tour’s first 72-hole event with a cut on the schedule of the 2023 season. Following its revolutionary announcement, Tommy Tangtiphaiboontana, the Senior Vice President of Tour operations, had some words to share. “This new regulation, now more consistent with other professional golf organizations, will assist in ensuring a manageable field size after 36 holes of competition”, he said.
Tommy further added, “The change will provide increased chances of playing off a single tee on the weekend and help establish a faster pace of play in an effort to strengthen the competitor experience at LPGA Tournaments”. Undoubtedly, the new development will provide more entertaining and enticing competition among golfers.

While the level of golf grows higher in the Tour, the management has also taken measures to improve the popularity. However, with a shortage in the cut line, many deserving stars may also end up falling on the negative side of the new rule. Regardless, the coming days will indicate whether the change was helpful or not.
