Folks, it’s LIV Golf again. And this time it has nothing to do with the potential LIV Golf and PGA Tour merger or Scott O’Neil’s comments about hosting the world’s best golfers. So, what? It has to do with the PGA Tour and Brandel Chamblee. How and why? Well, to understand that, let’s take a look at the latest Tour news. The PLAYERS Championship has just ended after dramatic moments in the final round, with the World No. 2 Rory McIlroy beating J.J. Spaun to take home the $4.5 million win. The three-hole sudden-death pulled another thing in millions.

The roaster of star-studded players helped draw in a total of 3.6 million viewers on NBC on Sunday! But was that it? Try doubling it with slightly poor math. The peak headline hit at 7 PM (ET) with 6.2 million! Compare that to last year’s 3.5 million and the 2023 season 4.1 million. And you see the pattern. The Tour is doing fine. And someone else seems to have noticed it. Only to taunt LIV Golf.

Taking it up on X, Chamblee made two particular tweets regarding this situation. The first one reads: “Compare this to LIV’s finale last year that concluded in prime time on the east coast with Rahm winning…which drew 55,000 viewers. People tune in to sports that matter.” Fair enough. LIV Golf has been struggling in that particular regard, but by adding the latter part, he lit a match on many feelings. And Chamblee wasn’t done. He had more to say. So he did.

In his second X post, he compared them again: “The PGA Tour is killing it and LIV is dying a slow costly death.” Ouch! There’s more. “LIV players have seller’s remorse. They want the meritocratic cachet that competing at the highest level confers but they have shown in their choice to play for LIV that they’d rather have the money first and sue for the cachet. Trying to blur the distinction between gift and reward. The audience sees right through them and chooses to watch those that prefer to play for history and legacy.”

History, legacy, traditions, and records. These come from time. Don’t they? LIV has only begun in terms of PGA’s timeline. It’s like comparing the number of spins between a 7-year-old ballerina and the Sun! Give her some time! So, fans are not impressed. Here’s a look at a few reactions.

Golf fans do not like Brandel Chamblee’s LIV Golf comments

This isn’t the first time Brandel Chamblee has talked about LIV Golf and certainly won’t be the last. His back-to-back comments on LIV Golf has made a few fans angry with the first one letting him know that he has been at it for a while now. “Bros been saying the same sh*t for 3 years. It’s exhausting. Give it up.” Unfortunately for Chamblee, it’s the truth. Last year, Chamblee had brought up this particular point as well. The season-ending event drew 89,000 viewers on the CW up against the NFL. So, as a result, Chamblee took another swing at LIV, saying it “remains in the witness protection program of sports viewership.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Chamblee right about LIV Golf's 'slow costly death,' or is he just stirring the pot?

Have an interesting take?

Next? The same as the first one’s: “Same opinion for years now.” The second fan added, “This guy needs to relax.” Take, for instance, last year when he ripped apart the league for its format on the No Laying Up podcast and called it “stupid.” The next fan said, “This guy is obsessed with Liv.” If you look at the number of times Chamblee has reported on LIV, you won’t doubt it either. Chamblee has often discussed not only the league’s format and quality of play but also Saudi Arabia’s poor human rights record.

Another comment read, “Say whatever you want, but Phil accomplished his goal.” Well, when Phil Mickelson left for LIV Golf, the golf world didn’t show much appreciation for him. Critics bashed him left and right, and he eventually lost sponsors. What happened then? The Tour underwent big changes, with the PGA Tour even announcing signature events and big purses. But some fans aren’t convinced.

Brandel Chamblee has been in the news for a while for different reasons. What do you think?
