‘Better Chance’: While Holly Sonders Breaks Barriers, Her Boyfriend Draws Comparison Between Tiger Woods and Legendary Boxer

Beating the legendary Tiger Woods in golf is a very difficult task. Even experienced golfers and Woods’s rivals have rarely ever had the chance to defeat the GOAT of golf. In an interesting comparison, boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya recently drew on the golfer’s legacy to praise one of the best boxers in the world today.

De La Hoya is the boyfriend of former golf reporter Holly Sonders, who has come up with her own golf league called Exposed Sports. The former made the comparison ahead of a highly anticipated bout in the boxing world. 

Oscar De La Hoya compares Tyson Fury to Tiger Woods

Although he has retired now, in his days De La Hoya was the six-division world champion and an Olympic gold medalist. Even though he has never tried his hands at golfing, the latter is very well aware of the mark that Tiger Woods has made. This was clear from an answer he gave during an interview.

In his recent interview with TMZ Sports to promote boxing star Ryan Garcia’s upcoming return to boxing, the interviewers put him against ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury, who is the best heavyweight boxer in the world. To this Oscar replied, “I think I have a better chance at beating Tiger Woods in golf,” 

He went on to talk about Fury as a phenomenal fighter. He said, “I’ll tell you one thing about Tyson Fury and Ngannou. It’s gonna be entertaining, while it lasts I believe. Tyson Fury, you have to realize, he went in there against [Deontay] Wilder. He goes in there vs. Wladimir Klitschko, so he’s a fighter all his life inside the boxing ring.”

The fight between Fury and Ngannou takes place in Saudi Arabia today. Some might have been surprised to hear a comparison drawn between a boxer and a golfer, considering how different the two sports are. However, it’s not surprising since De La Hoya is in a relationship with a well-known golf personality. Her interest in golf is definitely rubbing off on the boxer.

Holly Sonders and her career as a golf personality

De La Hoya is dating Holly Sonders, who spent a long part of her career as a golf reporter. Golfing fans will know her as the host of Morning Drive on the Golf Channel, a stint that lasted five years. After that, she started working for Fox Sports in 2015. On Fox Sports, she played an important role in the USGA coverage and used to cover the USGA championship, U.S. Opens, and U.S. Women’s Opens. She started dating Oscar after meeting him at a boxing event.

Now, she is putting all her golf knowledge from decades spent with the sport to good use. She has started her own league and is recruiting athletic “talent”. Her love for golf was evident in the comparison that De La Hoya made. It shows how the couple share a deep love for sports.
