No part of our lives is immune to accidents, and mishaps. The same is true for a golf course; even with extreme caution and security, such occurrences knock at the door unannounced. And given the nature of accidents, they leave a lot of room for damage to take place.

Not getting enough and timely aid can cause harm that is irrevocable. Fortunately, nothing of that extreme happened at Country Club in Montana when a tragedy shook the golf fans off the course. The incident left 33 injured and 25 hospitalized, including Billings resident

On 22 June, it was a normal day for fans who had gathered at Briarwood Country Club for the Tangle Derby; until it wasn’t. As the scenes on the greens were still unfolding, the deck started shaking and making noises. This alerted the spectators who were present on it, including Jordan Hennessy—the Billings resident. He recounted that he had heard some cracking sounds, which made him look toward his sister. While the resident was suggesting to get off the deck, it collapsed completely.

Continuing, Hennessy said that he doesn’t remember much, just that a table came down and hit him in the head. “Bounced my head off the pavement a little bit over here,” he recalled in the wake of the terrifying experience. According to Nuclr Golf, as the back deck crumbled on the clubhouse patio, 33 people were injured and 25 hospitalized. The latter included Jordan Hennessy as well.

This resulted in Hennessy getting an x-ray of the leg, elbow, and collarbone area because he had fallen on his left side. It also meant that the golf enthusiast will not be able to execute his shots for a while now. However, despite such a mishap, the Billings local felt like he was in the right place at the right time.

Recalling his sister’s fall, he stated, “She actually fell right on top of me, which I’m happy about. Just making sure she’s okay“. Apart from Hennessy, Esther Jensen, and Scott Pekovich also provided their statements. The latter being the PGA general manager of Briarwood Country Club divulged probable reasons for the mishap.

Was there any negligence at the Briarwood Country Club?

Another spectator, Esther Jensen, who was watching the aftermath from the window, also came forward to give the report. Jensen recalled that they rushed to the window upon hearing the crash. The scenes on the ground showed everyone right there, bleeding. While it is too soon to divulge the source of the problem, PGA general manager of Briarwood Country Club, Scott Pekovich, revealed certain details regarding the deck.

He clearly stated that no negligence was present from Briarwood’s side at all. “I truly believe it was just a freak accident and we just have to deal with it,” added Pekovich.

Furthermore, he confirmed that some parts of the deck had been replaced earlier only. However, the undercarriage of it had not been replaced recently. The changed segments included the top trex decking, the actual cover, and the floor of the deck.
