Adrian Otaegui has always had one goal in mind, to be a part of Team Europe in the Ryder Cup. His quest to join the prestigious tournament has seen him fight tooth and nail with some of the best golfers in the world. He almost managed to qualify for the tournament last year when he captured the 2022 Andalucia Masters.

He soon moved to LIV Golf where he joined the Torque GC. During this time, he stated that qualifying for the Ryder Cup team was his priority. But things didn’t turn out the way he had hoped as he missed out on the 2023 Ryder Cup team.

Not only that but Otaegui was also let go by LIV Golf in 2023. It’s fair to say that his dreams turned into what most pro golfers would consider a nightmare. Adrian Otaegui still went on to compete in the DP World Tour to continue his Ryder Cup pursuit.

But one year after being let go by LIV Golf, Adrian Otaegui has taken yet another life-changing decision. It seems that the 32-year-old Spaniard has completely given up on his Ryder Cup dream. According to a tweet by @EGFuaegolf, Otaegui has decided to represent the UAE in 2025. The tweet read, “Adrian Otaegui set to fly UAE Flag for 2025 Season” This means that he has become ineligible to represent Team Europe in the Ryder Cup 2025.

While the decision to make the switch might surprise everyone in the golf community, Adrian Otaegui has some other plans in his mind. While giving up the opportunity to play in the Ryder Cup, Otaegui has increased his chances to participate in the Olympic Games next term.
