Is Charlie Woods living up to Tiger’s legacy, or is Bobby Massa the real future star?

Charlie Woods or Bobby Massa? One is the son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods and has already given his shot at the PGA Tour qualifiers, while the latter is the 36-year-old amateur currently in the race to claim his first USGA at the US Amateur Championship. Who do you think is better between these two? Well, the handicap scores have some answers.

There isn’t any official confirmation about Massa’s handicap score. However, the US Amateur Championship demands +2 or lower, so Massa’s score could be around that. As for Woods Jr., he has already played in a PGA Tour pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic this year. PGA Tour qualifiers demand at least a handicap of 2 or better, and Charlie Woods carries a +3 handicap index with the Florida State Golf Association. Although Woods Jr. was unable to succeed in the PGA Tour and US Open qualifiers, he has had decent performances on the South Florida PGA Junior Tour.

The 15-year-old started this year with a T2 finish at the Medalist Tour in Martin Downs. Yes, his performance went a little bit downhill in the Medalist Tour—Admiral’s Cove—Village and finished T26. However, the little cub made a comeback, finishing T8 at the South Florida Jr. PGA Championship and also recently winning the SFPGA Junior Cup with a total of 214.

As for Bobby Massa, he played at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson but was unable to make the cut after carding 69 and 72 on the first two days. Currently, at the US Amateur Championship, the golfer is making a name for himself. In round 64, he was matched against Luke Sampler, ranked 73rd. Sample won six holes, while Massa won eight out of 18 holes and defeated him to claim a spot in the quarterfinals, and his race to win the title continues.

Bobby Massa’s quest to win the first USGA title

Massa has played in three USGA events since 2022 and is yet to claim a victory. He finished 70 in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship back in 2022; after that, he didn’t play at any USGA events until the US Amateur Championship in 2023 and finished 65. However, he made a comeback in the 2023 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, finishing fifth. In the year 2024, the US Amateur Championship will be his first USGA tournament.

The golfer is looking in decent form. He recently played at the Texas Amateur Championship, finishing 14th. Now for the US Amateur Championship, he is matched against Spain’s Jose Luis Ballester. Whether Massa will win his first USGA title this time around remains a question until the conclusion of the tournament.
