Golf teams getting big sponsorships and brand deals isn’t a new thing. This, however, isn’t the case for LIV Golf. The Saudi-funded golf league has been in troubled waters since its inception. Form a long rivalry with the PGA Tour to losing sponsors during its first season.  Many experts claimed it would not stay afloat for more than a year. But the rival tour defied all odds and had a very successful 1st season. But it still needed OWGR rankings for its players and a strong backing. 

All this changed when LIV Golf and PGA Tour announced its merger earlier this year, sending shock waves through the golfing community. Now, not only have they begun the process of merging with their arch-rivals, but they also got one of the largest sports sponsorship in history.

Massive sports sponsorship for LIV Golf

The LIV Golf team Majesticks GC is the first to bag a Web3 company’s sponsorship. Ranked as the world’s second-largest crypto exchange company with a trading volume of around $1 billion, OKX is the proud sponsor of Majesticks GC. This comes ahead of the team’s next tournament at Valderrama in Spain near the end of June 2023.

This is not the first sports sponsorship by OKX. Before this, they partnered with the McLaren Formula 1 Team, the English Premier League’s Manchester City FC, F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, and Olympian Scotty James. However, this is the largest sports venture for the company and the sports world.

The team comprises Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, Lee Westwood, Laurie Canter, and Sam Horsfield. OKX sponsored Ian before, and he has this to say, “Having been an OKX Ambassador, I know that the company brings passion, technological expertise and creative thinking to everything it does. That’s why I’m so excited to welcome OKX as the first official global sponsor for Majesticks GC.”

According to OKX, the reason behind this partnership is the common mindset between LIV Golf, OKX, and Majesticks GC, to disrupt the sectors via fresh ideas and cutting-edge technology. OKX brings new technology with accessible tools in the Web3 platform, while LIV Golf revolutionizes the sport.

A turning point for LIV Golf

Having secured this sponsorship, Majesticks GC will don OKX logos. This will be seen in all the upcoming events, with the first being at the Real Club Valderrama in Spain between June 30-July 2.

Chief Marketing Officer at OKX, Haider Rafique, had the following statement, “Golf captivates people around the world, however, its reach can be magnified if we dare to think big about fan engagement, inclusivity and truly unique partnership activations that use Web3 to amaze and inspire.”
