In the past few weeks, anyone who has followed the golf scene would have noticed the commotion over the selection process of the Ryder Cup teams. It’s a pretty big deal to make it into the top 12 male golfers’ lists in the region. So, naturally, when a 23-year-old golfer who turned pro recently makes it onto the team, he gets attention.

Despite the controversy surrounding his pick, Swedish golfer Ludvig Aberg has accolades that arguably justify his selection. The youngster has turned heads with what he has done in the past few months and continues to do so in the ongoing BMW PGA Championship as well. And a recent tweet summarized his glorious moments of the recent past for all!

A recent tweet from Kyle Porter, the renown golf analyst, highlighted exactly why Aberg deserved his controversial Ryder Cup spot. The post included a series of unbelievable stats that the Swede had achieved. To start with, as a collegiate golfer playing for the Red Raiders of Texas Tech, he won the prestigious Fred Haskins Award for the year 2023.

Speaking of the national player-of-the-year awards, he has won all three of them, including the Ben Hogan award and the Jack Nicklaus award this year. He is only the seventh golfer in the world to achieve this. In April of this year, Aberg also won the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship for the second time in a row.

Following that, in May, he finished the Omega European Masters in the first position. The Swedish youngster is also reported by Porter to be the second-best driver in the world of golf, based on 20 rounds. The biggest of his achievements so far, however, was earning a spot in the European Ryder Cup team this year after only just turning pro. This did not, however, happen magically! Ludvig had opportunities to be seen and heard by the captain, Luke Donald, and used them well.

Luke Donald mentioned in an interview that he had heard of Ludvig Aberg from one of the vice captains of the team and was intrigued. Later, he played with the talent in Detroit, where he first-hand saw what the ambitious golfer could do with his clubs. Donald praised how Aberg got to an impressive 9-under through the 16 holes. He spoke highly of Aberg’s quality shorts and the confidence the Swede carries during his game.

After his selection for the team, Aberg hasn’t gotten complacent at all. If anything, he has become even more aggressive with his growth to prove to the world that he deserves to be picked. And that shows with how well he’s doing at the current DP World Tour event!

In the first round, Ludvig Aberg scored six birdies with two bogeys and finished at 4-under par. In the second and third rounds, he finished with a 6-under score. Aberg scored eight and five birdies, respectively, for each round, with the total score offset by bogeys.

Currently, Ludvig Aberg leads the scoreboard of the BMW PGA Championship at 16-under par. He holds a 2-score lead over Connor Syme and Tommy Fleetwood, who share the second position. However, either could also easily jump up in the fourth round.

There’s Jon Rahm at number 7, who is a major threat to Aberg if he wants to win the title. And as of this writing, Viktor Hovland just moved up to T8 after the beginning of the fourth round. Aberg has a fleet of contenders waiting to grapple for the title.
