Ryder Cup at Marco Simone will not be Whistling Straits 2.0, at least not if the international side has a say! The European squad is playing their best game and garnering momentum, and the BMW PGA Championship in Surrey reflects just that, with the new breakout star, Ludvig Aberg, shining through.

Aberg was not an obvious pick for the European team, but now he is proving to be the right one. His performance at the current championship has been nothing short of remarkable. And the Ryder Cup rookie seems to have more to him than just blistering ball-striking abilities, as he flaunts his humility while chasing a record set by golf legend Tiger Woods himself!

Ludvig Aberg shows off his humble side

Aberg secured a 68 during Round 1 in Wentworth and carded a splendid 66 while playing Round 2. On Saturday, he entered the grounds as a co-leader alongside fellow Swedish golfer Sebastian Söderberg. And came out of it as the only leader ahead of the final round on Sunday as Sebastian fell out of contention.

In the post-round interview, the reporters, while praising him for his machine-gun-like golf, also asked him several questions. And it turns out that Aberg is quite humble in his approach to the game. Perhaps that’s why he plays it as smooth as jelly to card eagles and birdies.

The reporter reminded him that since his last 11 rounds, Ludvig is 52 under par and leading at the BMW PGA Championship. They also assumed that the game was easy for him at the moment. And Aberg responded, “I wish this game was easy, but it’s not. I feel like I’m striking the ball quite well, and I’m just trying to take advantage of playing well.”

The Ryder Cup rookie does not take his game for granted, and that is what makes him stand out. He is on the brink of creating history, playing against golfing greats like Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland and outshining them. And now the Swedish pro is figuratively just inches away from even accomplishing an extraordinary feat, similar to that of Tiger Woods!

Eagles and birdies as smooth as jelly by Aberg

Ludvig Aberg turned professional in June. And he has been playing like an experienced golfer since, even securing himself a ticket to Rome. The 23-year-old will make his Ryder Cup debut before playing in any of the majors, which stands testament to his skill. During Round 3 in Wentworth, he carded one eagle and five birdies to score a consecutive 6-under 66.

The Ryder Cup rookie’s outstanding performance is also bringing him closer to achieving a feat that the legendary Tiger Woods also holds. If he wins the BMW PGA Championship today, Aberg will climb the list of the top 50 golfers in only three months after turning professional. Woods etched his name there eight weeks after turning pro.
