Is it time for Florida to rethink its disaster preparedness in light of recent hurricanes?

Florida, already hit by Hurricane Helene, is struggling to recover from Hurricane Milton that followed right after. Thousands of people had to evacuate their houses, causing huge disruption to their daily lives. Earlier this month, the Qualifying stage of the LPGA Q-Series had been postponed from October 13 to October 20. This was due to the impacts of Hurricane Milton, thinking about the safety of all those involved. It seems the weather was not done disrupting the golf events.

The BMW Ladies Championship began on October 17 and the opening round concluded just a few hours ago. Hannah Green entered the Friday round with a three-stroke lead with a 4-under. Ashleigh Buhai is at the solo second, while Lydia Ko, Nanna Koerstz Madsen, Hye-Jin Choi, and, Jenny Shin finished with a T3, one stroke behind Buhai. As the round was all set to begin, the bad news crept in.

The second round of the BMW Ladies Championship had to be suspended due to terrible weather around the Republic of Korea. The official X account of the LPGA Media took to their wall and reported the news. Round 2 of the #BMWLadiesChampionship has been suspended at 1:05 p.m. local time due to unplayable course conditions. @LPGA”, they wrote.

The AccuWeather reports had already predicted that there would be a 100% probability of rain and a 40% probability of thunderstorms. Additionally, the rain was predicted to be around 18.2 mm, and to add to the misery, there would be 84% cloud cover. All these add up to a completely unplayable condition at the Seowon Hills, Seowon Valley CC, Paju, Gyeonggi-do, Korea. But will the BMW Ladies Championship have the same fate on Saturday?

Have an interesting take?

While the Friday weather in South Korea is predicted “Not as warm with rain”, for Saturday, it says, “Some Sun.” The temperature on Saturday might go as high as only 18 degrees and as low as 7 degrees. This predicts an ideal condition to play golf. But what about the rain? Well, looks like the players are safe there as well. October 19 is to have only a 1% chance of rain, and 0% chance of thunderstorms.

Nonetheless, there might be wind gusts blowing in from time to time at a speed of 50 km/h, which might cause some problems. Additionally, the cloud cover will be around 48%. Now while this may be not as high as on Friday, there might still be a visibility issue. Apart from that, looks like the Saturday round will go as planned.
